This is it. The final chapter. I know plenty of you are saying 'finally, it took her long enough.' Now it's time for the senior prom and time for Relena's decision. But this chapter is going to be longer compared to the last one. So sit back and relax. Also I hope you chose the side you're rooting for. Also I'm not doing sperate endings, sorry. This chpater will be the one and only chapter 13. So I hope you enjoy.
When Opposites Attract
Part 13
"L3." Catherine said. Relena blinked.
"Your moving to L3?" she asked. Catherine smiled.
"No, I'm going there to stay for the summer. I work at the circus there with Trowa." she responded.
"Is he going with you?" Relena asked.
"Yeah." Catherine responded. She pulled out a blue ticket. "This is for you." Relena took the ticket and looked at it.
"What's this for?" she asked.
"The show. I want you to see Trowa and I perform that day. Duo, Hilde, Quatre, Dorothy, Sally, and Wufei already agreed to go with us. They had all said they could stay there for about 3 weeks. A little summer vacation in space."
"So you want me to come along?" Relena asked.
"Of course." Catherine said.
"What about Heero?" Relena asked.
"We sent him a invite, but we haven't gotten a response. I think he wants to stay on earth." Catherine responded. "So do you think you could go for about three weeks?"
"Sure." Relena said. Catherine smiled. "Great. You have to call Quatre. He's the one making all the flight arrangments. I think were leaving the day after graduation."
"Alright." Relena responded. She looked at her watch. "I better get going. I still haven't gotten a prom dress yet."
"The prom's in two days. Your impossible Relena Peacecraft!" Catherine said. Relena smiled and left Catherine's dorm. Four days had passed since the incident at the restaurant. The whole group except for Duo had to pay a high fee for the mess.
"I just don't like it." Relena said looking the mirror.
"Relena, you're too picky." Hilde said. "It's pretty."
"But it's purple." Relena said. "I don't won't purple." Hilde frowned.
"Well that's what you get for shopping for a prom dress 2 days before the prom." she said. "This is the 14th dress you've tried on."
"I'm not going to give up yet. I'll find my prom dress." Relena said.
"Try this one." Hilde said handing her a red dress. Relena frowned but made her way to the dressing room. A few minutes later she came back wearing the red dress. Hilde smiled.
"I like it." she said.
"I don't." Relena said. Hilde frowned again and handed Relena another dress. She was about to give up when Relena came running out a smile on her face.
"Well...what do you think?" She asked. Hilde looked at the dress. It was a spaghetti strapped, ankle length, black dress with a silt that came up to the mid thigh. Relena looked at Hilde for an answer and Hilde quickly nodded.
"You look great, now can we go now?" Hilde asked.
"Are you being honest?" Relena asked.
"Yes, you look fine. Come on, I want to go home." Hilde pleaded. Relena smiled and soon later purchased the dress.
"So, your not going?" Duo asked.
"Why should I?" Heero asked Duo.
"Maybe because you'd be going with friends. You'd have fun." Duo responded.
"I want to stay on earth for summer vacation." Heero said. Duo sighed.
"Your going to miss a lot." He said. Before Heero could respond the phone rang. Duo picked it up the phone.
"Hello?" He said.
"Duo, it's me." Hilde said. Duo smiled.
"Hey Hilde. How did Relena's prom shopping go?" He asked.
"She took three hours, three hours." Hilde said. Relena looked at Hilde.
"You know I can hear you." Relena said.
"I know." Hilde said. "Duo, how's your day been?"
"Same old, same old." Duo responded. "Are you coming home?"
"Yeah, I should be there in about ten minutes." Hilde said.
"Alright, see ya in few." Duo said and hung up the phone.
"Heero at least tell me your going to the prom." Duo said. Heero nodded.
"Do you have a date?" Duo asked.
"No." Heero replied.
"Why not ask Relena?"
"I was going to but...not after the way I acted at the restaurant." Heero said.
"Heero that was weeks ago." Duo said. Heero raised an eyebrow.
"Duo it was four days ago." He said and Duo shrugged.
"Just ask her." He said.
Hilde opened the front door.
"Were back!" she called through the house. Duo and Heero walked into living room and Relena and Heero glanced at each other. Hilde saw this and made up a quick excuse.
"Duo, could you help me with these bags?" She asked. Duo looked at her.
"But Hilde, it's only one bag." He said. He looked at Relena and Heero. "Oh, yeah sure." He picked up the bag and he and Hilde went into their bedroom leaving Heero and Relena alone. Relena made her way towards the couch.
"So Heero, are you looking forward to the prom?" Relena asked. Heero sat down across from her.
"Yeah." He said. The two were silent for a few moments.
"Do...you have a date?" Relena asked.
"No." Heero responded. "Do you?"
"No." Relena responded. 'Besides, you don't need to go to the prom with a date."
"Your right." Heero said. "You can always go by yourself. There's nothing wrong with that."
"I couldn't agree more." Relena said. Heero stood up, walked to Relena, and sat down.
"...Then would you go to the prom with me?" He asked. A small smile appeared on Relena's face.
"Yes." She responded.
"Sorry it took so long, that bag was really heavy." Hilde said walking into the living room with Duo. Heero stood up.
"I better get going." He said. He glanced at Relena flashing her a quick smile.
"Bye Heero." Hilde and Duo said. Heero walked out the front door and as soon as the door closed. Hilde quickly sat next to Relena.
"Did he ask you to the prom?" She asked. Relena nodded.
"Did you say yes?" Hilde asked. Relena nodded.
"It's about time, finally Heero's got a date." Duo said.
"Thanks Trowa." Catherine said. Trowa glanced at her.
"For what?" He asked.
"For going to the prom with me." Catherine responded. "I didn't think I'd go with anyone." Trowa slightly smiled.
"Anything for family." He said and Catherine smiled.
"I know you wanted to go with Relena." She said.
"And how would you know that?" He asked. Catherine raised an eyebrow. He wasn't being serious when he asked that question.
"Trowa I've known you all my life. I know." Catherine said. Her smile widended. "Besides, at the restaurant you told Relena you loved her...in front of everyone. That was sweet...and brave." Catherine watched as Trowa's cheeks turned red.
"So are you ready to go to L3?" She asked. Trowa nodded.
"I told everyone about it." Catherine said. "They all said they could come."
"And..."
"And Relena said she could go too." Catherine cut in. Trowa smiled.
"I can't wait." He said.
"How long can it take?" Duo asked aloud. "Hilde c'mon!"
"Wait 5 more minutes." Hilde called back. Duo sighed. He didn't understand it. How could women take so long to get dressed for a prom? It wasn't that hard. It had only taken him 15 minutes. When Duo felt like he was about to fall asleep Hilde came out.
"It's about time I...." Duo trailed off. Hilde was in a sleeveless dress that was the same color of her eyes. With matching heels and light make-up she was ready to go. She twirled around and smiled.
"So, how do I look?" She asked. Duo stared at her for who knows how long.
"You look beautiful." He said. Hilde's cheeks turned red. Duo stepped closer to her. "And I wouldn't be more hornored to be able to go with you."
"Duo." Hilde said.
Heero walked up to Relena's dorm room. He was nervous, too nervous. He held in his right hand the corsage. He knocked on the door. Within a matter of seconds the door opened. He didn't even realize he was holding his breath. It felt like an eternity before Relena spoke.
"Hey."
"Hi." Heero said. He quickly looked at his hand then put the corsage on Relena's wrist. Relena looked down at it and smiled.
"Thank you." Relena said.
"Your welcome." Heero said. "You...you...you look incredible." Relena smiled again.
"Should we get going?" She asked. Heero extended his arm and Relena took it.
"Let's go." He said.
Soon later everyone had arrived at the prom. Decerations filled the whole room. Some were on the dancefloor, others at the tables, and others just talking. Relena smiled when she saw Quatre and Dorothy talking. Dorothy had just gotten a hair cut. Now her hair was above her shoulders instead below her waist. The two waved at her and she waved back.
Then she saw Duo and Hilde dancing. Hilde smiled at her as her hello. Relena also saw Sally and Wufei, for some reason they were arguing over something. But no one really worried, that's how they showed their affection for one another.
That's when Relena noticed someone looking at her. Relena turned to that direction to see Trowa. Relena wanted to look away but she couldn't. Then Trowa started to walk towards her and Relena could feel her heart pounding.
"Relena." Relena turned around to see Heero standing behind her. "May I have this dance?" Relena hadn't even noticed that a song had come on. She nodded letting Heero walk her to the dancefloor. She glanced back to see that Trowa was gone.
Catherine sat at a table watching couples on the dancefloor. Soon later Trowa sat next to her.
"You should ask her to dance with you." She said.
"She's not my date." Trowa said.
"So what." Catherine said. "I know she would say yes."
"And what if she said no?" Trowa asked.
"She won't say no, I'm sure of it." Catherine said.
"Are you enjoying the prom?" Trowa asked changing the subject. Catherine smiled.
"Yeah, I am." Catherine said. "When we do go to L3, do you want to stay there?"
"Permenetly?" Trowa asked and Catherine nodded.
"No." Trowa responded. "Just visit." Soon the song ended and Catherine turned to Trowa.
"Go ask her. If you don't," Catherine smiled again."I'll make sure to hit you with my knives." With that she got up and walked over to Hilde and Duo. Trowa sighed.
"Has he even talked to you?" Sally asked. Relena shook her head.
"Maybe he's just being shy." Dorothy asked.
"Maybe, I can't tell if Trowa's ignoring me or not." Relena said. The three girls sat at a table, talking as usual.
"Just let him come to you." Sally said.
"Would that work?" Relena asked. Sally smiled as she glanced at Wufei who was talking to Duo and Quatre.
"It worked for me." She said. "Probably it would work for you." Relena shrugged.
"Just ask him." Dorothy said. "It wouldn't hurt to try."
"I'm not sure." Relena said. She stood up. "I'm going to go get something to drink." Relena walked over to the food table. When it came to love, she could never make decisions. Relena reached for a cup and took a long sip. She was caught by surprise when someone wrapped their arms around her waist.
"Heero, you surprised me." She said.
"I'm not Heero." Trowa said. He started to pull Relena to the dancefloor.
"Trowa..."
"Dance with me?" Trowa asked and Relena nodded. Trowa twirled Relena around so he was facing her. One hand holding hers and the other around her waist, the two began to dance.
"Would you look at that." Hilde said. Duo followed Hilde's gaze to Trowa and Relena. He smiled.
"I see it, but I can't believe it." He said.
"I'm sorry." Relena said.
"For what?" Trowa said.
"About the restaurant incident. It was my fault that you and Heero got into an argument."
"It wasn't anyone's fault. It just...happened." Trowa said.
"Really, that food fight just happened?" Relena asked.
"Yeah." Trowa said. Relena smiled.
"And your outburst?" She asked. Trowa blushed slightly but his face went serious again.
"But you still know I love you." Trowa said. It wasn't a question. Relena was silent for a moment and then she nodded. Relena felt nervous, they had both been staring at each other for minutes without a word.
Relena couldn't tell what he was thinking.
"I need...I need courage." Trowa finally said. Relena was completly confused.
"Courage? For what?" She asked.
"To do this." Trowa responded. With that he leaned in and kissed her. Relena blinked and tried tp pull away but he wouldn't let her go and soon Relena couldn't help but kiss him back.
"We have a winner." Duo said looking at the two.
"I wouldn't jump to conclusions." Sally said.
"Why?" Duo asked.
"Because here comes Heero." She responded. Heero walked back into the room. He hadn't been looking long when he spotted Trowa and Relena. His eyes widended when he saw what was happening between the two. All he could do was stare.
The two pulled away from each other and stared at one another. Relena turned her head to see Heero looking at both of them. Then he turned and walked away. Relena pulled away from Trowa and ran after Heero.
"There she goes again." Hilde said.
"Heero wait!" She called. Heero stopped from hearing her voice. They were both outside, and the music from the prom room could be heard. Relena started walking closer to Heero.
"Heero I'm..."
"Don't." Heero cut in. "Don't apologize." He turned around to face her. "It's June. Our senior prom. I've been trying to win you back for four years. I don't know why I never gave up. I just thought you could love me again like you did before."
"Heero..."
"I not mad that you kissed him. I'm not sure what you'll do Relena." Heero leaned in and kissed her cheek.
"But just...decide." Relena stood there speechless as Heero walked away and she stayed there until he was out of sight. Relena looked up at the sky.
"It's time I did decide." She thought.
"I can't believe we graduated!" Catherine exclaimed. Just yesturday they had all graduated. All the seniors where packing their stuff and leaving the college. She and Trowa had already packed all their stuff and were at her apartment.
Now it was time to go to L3. Everyone had called saying they would meet at the airport. Catherine had to thank Quatre for paying for the flight arrangments. It was going to be a great three weeks. But the only thing that had her dissapointed was if Relena was still coming or not.
Catherine was pulled out her thoughts when a knock came from her door. Trowa had gotten to the door first. He opened the door to see Relena standing there. Trowa had thought she had come here to say she was going but with the look in her eyes, he knew he was wrong.
"Trowa, can I talk to you?" Relena asked. Trowa nodded and let her in.
"Would you like anything to drink?" Trowa asked and Relena shook her head. Catherine was in her room listening. She hated spying, but she wanted to know what Relena was going to say.
Trowa had noticed that Relena was avoiding his eyes and looking at the floor.
"What did you want to talk to me about?" Trowa asked.
"I'm not going to L3." Relena responded. "I'm staying on earth...with Heero."
"Relena..."
"I've decided who I want to be with. That person is Heero." Relena said. Her eyes began to water. "I'm sorry Trowa." Trowa stood up and walked towards her but Relena backed away.
"You don't mean it. I can see it in your eyes." Trowa said.
"I want to be with Heero, I...I love him." Relena said. She held back her tears. She made her way towards the door, opened it and left.
Trowa stood there stund. She had choosen Heero, not him. A door behind him opened. Catherine walked towards him.
"I'm so sorry Trowa." She said quietly.
Relena wiped the tears away from her eyes. She opened the door to Heero's apartment and stepped inside.
"What are doing here?" Heero asked. Relena stared at Heero.
"What do you mean?" She asked. Heero stood up.
"You should be at the airport." Heero said.
"But Heero, I'm satying with you." Relena said.
"Your forcing yourself to." Heero said.
"No I'm not." Relena said.
"You are." Heero said. "Relena can you look at me in the eye and tell me that you love me?" Relena was silent.
"Relena, I don't know why you chose me. At one point we both loved each other. But now, it's different."
"Heero..."
"I can look at you right now and tell that you want to be with Trowa. Relena, your the love of my life. But I have to let you go." Relena knew he wasn't lying. But his voice was so distant and cold, it seemed like he was. He loved her that much, he would let her go to see her happy.
"Go Relena." Heero said.
"But Heero..."
"Go! Before I regret what I said! Just go!" Heero exclaimed. Relena stared at him for moment before she ran out the door without looking back. Heero watched at Relena left the apartment and he leaned aganist the front door. His hand went over his eyes as a tear spilled down his face.
Catherine swang from the the rope a smile on her face. Suddenly she let go doing serveral flips in the air. While she had been doing this, Trowa had done a tripled flip and gracefully landed on the tightrope. He adjusted his hands and in a matter of seconds Catherine landed in his arms.
Catherine held out her hand and dove flew and landed on her hand. The audience began to cheer wildly.
"That was incredible." Hilde said aloud and Duo nodded. Catherine looked on at the still cheering crowd.
"You were great Trowa." She said. "I'm sure Relena enjoyed it." Trowa blinked.
"What are you talking about? Relena isn't...." Catherine pointed below. Trowa looked down to see someone looking up at him. That's when he realized it was Relena. In her hands was the mask he had given her. A smile on her face. Then she mouthed the words.
"I love you."
Trowa was going to have a good three weeks on L3, he was sure.
