Bio Jim is a Hampton Roads native and resides in Southeastern Virginia with his lovely wife, Brenda. Jim has been playing music since high school when he was profoundly influenced by the MoTown sound and monster 3-piece bands like Cream.
Over the years, Jim has been in a variety of gigging bands, including: The Agents, One, Tracer, Acquitted, and now The RELIC Band.
Music When cornered about his tastes in music, Jim readily admits that, "I really like blues and jazz best, but new rock, classic rock and some new country can hold my attention, too".
Among Jim's current favorite bands and artists are: Bono's U2, Sada, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. A big part of Jim's musical career has been spent playing in church worship bands. It is in such bands that Jim learned music theory, sight reading, and the subtlties of volume dynamics. Along the way, Jim also picked up valuable experience with live sound production. He was instrumental in getting his church to revamp their entire sound system. Like most musicians, Jim enjoys a variety of tones in his sonic palette and plays Warrior, Warmouth, and Music Man basses through SWR amps. Jim's current gig-rig includes a rack-mounted power amp, power conditioner, tuner, and other assorted odds and ends.
Unlike most rock bass players, Jim prefers a 5-string bass over the normal 4-string variety most every bass player uses. Jim refers to himself as a "specialist": bass and only bass - and a 5-stringer at that!
