Video Game Systems I Used To Own:
---------------------------------
Atari 2600
Gameboy Color

Some History:
-------------
The first video game system the I was lucky enough to own was the Atari 2600. It was an awesome
system from what I can remember, and I was constantly playing it. I had it up until the time I was about
seven years old or so. The system and the fifteen or twenty games that we owned at the time were donated
to my aunt and uncle, as they had just adopted my new cousins. Til this day I wish I still owned that
Atari, but in the end, I guess it went to a better cause.
The next system that I owned and still own today was my Nintendo. I currently have 89 games for
it, and I'll never part with it. I realize how easy it has become to emulate games on the computer in
today's world, but there is just some personal value that keeps me owning it. The original NES got me
through many of my younger years, and I am greatful to have owned it, and still own it.
The next system that I owned was the Sega Genesis. This system marked the prime of my childhood,
and was probably the system that brought me my fondest memories. I believe my parents bought it for my
brother and I when they were on a trip, and when they suprised us with it when they returned, we were
stunned. I spent hours and hours playing Sonic 2 and Jurassic Park, the first two games I owned I believe.
Although I Still own my Sega, I only have a couple of games left for it, none worth playing.
I traded it in a couple years back along with about thirty or so games, so that I could purchase a
Nintendo 64. Although I look back and wish I still owned my Genesis, I am very happy that I now have
the n64 games that I do, many that are becoming very hard to find, and therefore expensive. It was a
hard trade to make, but in the end, it was worth it. Although I am not positive of all of the games
that I used to own on my Sega, I will try to make a list of all of the games that I used to own:

Now that I've created the list, I didn't realize that I had over fifty games, wow. I'm not a
hundred percent sure that the list is correct, but I am almost sure that I used to own all of the games
above at one point. It saddens me more to see all of those great games that I no longer own, but I can't
complain too much, as I now have my nintendo 64 ;) The only other game that I wanted for the Sega was
Streets of Rage 3, which I was never able to come by.
In the time that I owned a Sega, I was also lucky enough to play with my friends Nomad on the go.
It was the perfect handheld for me at the time because I had a vast library of Sega games, but I opted
not to buy one because I found that they often froze when the cartridge was slightly bumped, and the
battery life was horrible.
At some point in time, I had a very important decision to make. Sometime after the playstaion 1
came out, my cousin offered to sell me his used gameboy with eight games. The problem came from the other
option that I had, the playstation 1. My parents had told me that I could only buy one of them, and after
playing with the gameboy and quickly becoming bored with it, I decided to give it back to my cousin and
purchase my first playstation 1. The first game that I purchased with it was Twisted Metal 1, and this
game kept me busy for weeks. As you can see on my website, my PS1 collection has grown bigger than any
other system that I own, and that is because it is by far my favorite system of all time.
After playing my playstation 1 to death (not literally), I was completely satisfied. When I saw
that the Playstation 2 was coming out, I knew I had to have it (at some point). I didn't own my PS2 until
about a year after it came out, and I bought it used for about $240. Luckily, it did stay alive for a
couple of years, but eventually the laser burned out (it was a first gen PS2). A couple of years ago, I
purchased my second Playstation 2, and it has been running strong. I even modded my second Playstation 2
with a Modbo 2.1, and was actually suprised that it worked. I had almost no soldering experience prior
to this attempt, but I was bound and determined to make it work, and it did (after hours and hours or
hard labor :p ).
About a year before I modded my Playstation 2 (mid 2004), I had traded all of my Sega Genesis
games to a local store and used to buy a $10 dollar Nintendo 64 they had, as well as a good number
of games. I had always played the Nintendo 64 at Friends' houses, and always wanted to have one of my
own, so I felt like this was the perfect opportunity. I was lucky enough to pick up most of the games
that I own for between $1 - $5, though a couple of them cost me $10. I feel that I did pretty well for
the calibur of games that I now own.
I actually did own a gameboy color in late 2005/early 2006, that I had bought for $10 with a
handful of games that I picked up on ebay. I owned about 11 games all together, including: Mario 1,
Pokemon Blue, Final Fantasy Adventure, Final Fantasy Legend I, II, and II, Beavis & Butthead, Zelda
Seasons and Ages, and Megaman Xtreme 1 and 2. After realizing that I wasn't getting too much fun from
this outdated system, I decided to sell the Final Fantasys on Ebay, making most of my money back, and
gave the rest of the games to my brother.
Finally, I get to the PSP, the only handheld that I feel is worth owning. I hear many people
complaing that the PSP's games are too similar to the Playstation 2's games, but this was probably the
biggest selling for me. The problem with handhelds of the past, was that there was a big gap between
the quality of games that were being produced on consoles vs. handhelds. Gameboys were never very
fun to me (with the exception of a few games), and the Advance and DS by Nintendo are not very impressive
to me as well. Nintendo seems to be stuck back in the same handheld days that they've always been in,
with very little change in fun factor. When the PSP struck home, I had to have one. Right after the
price dropped from $250 -> $200, I went and picked one up, selling my 6GB Creative Zen Micro to pay for
most of the price. Now, about seven months later, and a lot of money down the drain, I own twenty-five
games for the system, and I am constantly playing it.

The Next Gen:
-------------
As sad as it may sound, the next generation of games are already dead to me (Playstation 3,
Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360). Maybe I am not giving them a chance at all, but I already don't like what
I see from all three of them. The Playstation 3's price is somewhat decent for what you get, but
I just can't afford to spend $60 dollars on every game I buy. I can handle paying about $20 or less
for each PSP game (which is about how much I've spent so far), but the $60 a game, used games probably
being only a small amount lower, is just too much. The same goes for the X360, though the PS3 will
most likely have more games that are worth the money when its all said and done. Its a shame that
I probably won't be able to play a few key games I am interested it (Killzone 2, FFXIII, MGS4), but
I can't justify about $800 just to play three games that I like at the moment. There are more
important things in this world than games, and my consoles probably end with the PSP (unless a PSP2
comes out in the future). Although the Wii is much closer to my price range, its still not worth
owning a system that I will hate playing. I like playing games by while resting/lying down/relaxing,
and I hate the idea of having to swing my arms around for many of the games I'd play. Not to mention
that the only games I feel that will be worth owning on the system are Zelda:TP, and Smash Brothers:
Brawl, which still may not be any good, especially since I wasn't too impressed with the gamecube
version. My thoughts with the Wii is that a decently created controller doesn't make a great system.
I haven't seen Nintendo come out with more than a few decent games since the Nintendo 64, so I'm
not wasting my money on it. Either way you go though, I think you lose in the console world this time
around. I'll stick to playing my PSP and my PC ;)
