The Last Farewell
In profound grief and solitude you left me
Steeped in mournful memories of the past;
Before this hear-rending scene you kissed me.
Alas! it was a honeymoon that could not last.
I have tearfully kissed your pale and icy brow
While thiking of the future days with fear;
With those unseeing eyes looking at me now
In vain I await your silent voice to hear.
The pain of your absence may never never pass
For alone in this world I now must wander;
But some day we shall assuredly be reunited,
Never again to part, my beloved absent lover.
