The Unicorn

The mysterious equine creature with cloven hooves and a single spiral horn glides silently through our imagination. Pure and eternal, the unicorn roams free in misty woods of legend, its magical horn graced with curative powers.
Some said it was a ferocious beast of the mountains that could never be taken alive. In older paintings, it is often one of the animals grazing in the Garden of Eden, and in medieval tapestries, sometimes honoring noble ladies, sometimes being captured and even killed by hunters.
Many claimed to have seen the animal, from the Temple at Mecca to the wilds of Africa. What was said to be its prized horn sold for small fortunes in apothecary shops and was displayed in cathedrals and in glass museum cases.
As the constellation Monoceros, the unicorn moves silently and faintly within the misty band of the Milky Way. The magical animal can also be found in pewter and glass in gift shop windows. It wanders through heradly, children’s literature, modern fantasy, and reverie.
