X-Men: Code Name Definitions
Angel:
1. a supernatural being, either good or bad, to whom are attributed greater than human power, intelligence, etc.
2. a guiding spiit or influence.
3. a conventionalized image of a white-robed figure in human form with wings and a halo.
4. a person regarded as beautiful, good, innocent, etc.
Archangel:
1. a chief angel; angel of high rank
Aurora:
1. the goddess of dawn: identified with the Greek Eos
2. the dawn
Beast:
1. qualities or impulses like an animal’s
2. a person who is brutal, gross, vile, etc.
Bishop:
a high-ranking Christian clergyman having authority, variously, over other clergy and usually supervising a diocese or church district
Cable: (a cable, rope)
1. a thick, heavy rope, now often of wire strands.
2. the strong, heavy chain attached to a ship’s anchor: anchor cables were formerly of rope.
3. a bundle of insulated wires through which an electral current can be passed.
Cannonball:
1. fast; rapid
2. to move very rapidly
Colossus:
1. a gigantic statue
2. Any huge or important person or thing.
Cyclops: (round-eyed)
Greek Myth. any of a race of giants who had one eye, in the middle of the forehead.
Dazzler:
“Dazzle” 1. to overpower or dim the vision with very bright light or moving lights
2. to confuse, suprise, or overpower with brilliant qualities, display, etc.
Domino: (hooded cloak)
1. a loose cloak or robe with wide sleeves, hood, and mask, worn at masquerades.
2. a small mask, generally black, for the eyes; half mask.
3. a person dressed in such a cloak or mask.
Gambit: (a tripping)
a maneuver or action intended to gain an advantage.
Havok:
“Havoc” great destruction and devastation, as that resulting from hurricanes, wars, etc.
Iceman:
a person who sells or delivers ice.
Jubilee:
1. an anniversary
2. a celebration of this
3. jubilation; rejoicing
Magick: (magic, sorcery)
“magic” 1. the use of charms, spells, and rituals in seeking or pretending to cause or control events, or govern certain natural or supernatural forces; sorcery; witchcraft
2. such charms, spells, etc.
3. any mysterious, seemingly inexplicable, or extraordinary power or influence
4. the art or performing skill of producing baffling effects or illusions by sleight of hand, conceled apparatus, etc.
Magma:
1. a pasty mixture of crude mineral or organic matter
2. liquid or molten rock deep in the earth, which on cooling soldifies to produce igneous rock
3. Pharmacy. a suspension of percipitated matter in a water substance
Marrow:
1. the soft, vascular, fatty tissue that fills the cavities of most bones
2. the innermost, essential, orchoisest part; pith
3. vitality
Marvel Girl:
“Marvel” 1. a wonderful or astonishing thing; prodigy or miracle.
2. astonishment
“Girl” 1. a female child
2. a young, unmarried woman
3. a woman of any age, married or single
5. a sweetheart
Mirage:
1. an optical illusion in which the image of a distant object, as a ship or an oasis, is made to appear nearby, floating in air, inverted, etc. it is caused by the refraction of light rays from the object through layers of air having diffirent densities as the result of unequal temperature distributions
2. something that falsely appears to be real
Morph:
1. a representation of an occurance of a morphene sequence
2. a sequence of phonemes isolated from surrounding sequences but not yet assigned to a particular morphene
3. same as allomorph
“Allomorph” 1. any of the crystalline forms of a substance existing in more than one such form
2. Linguis. any of the variant forms of a morphene as conditioned by position or adjoining sounds.
Northstar:
Polaris, the bright star almost directly above the northern end of the earth’s axis; polestar
Phoenix: (dark red, Phoenican, blood-red, deadly)
Egyptian myth. a beautiful, lone bird which lived in the Arabian desert for 500 or 600 years and then consumed itself in fire, rising renewed from the ashes to start another long life: a symbol of immortality.
Polaris: (stella)
the bright star almost directly above the northern end of the earth’s axis; polestar
Rogue: (thieves’ slang)
1. formerly, a wandering beggar or tramp; vagabond.
2. a rascal; scoundrel
3. a fun-loving, mischievous person
4. an elephant or other animal that wanders apart from the heard and is fierce and wild.
5. Biological. an individual varying markedly from the standard, especially an inferior one.
Shadowcat: (shade)
“shadow” 1. something without reality or substance; imaginary vision
2. a ghost; apparition
3. to represent vaguely, mystically, or prophetically, prefigure (often with forth)
4. to change gradually
“cat” 1. a person regarded as a cat in some way, especially a woman who makes spiteful remarks.
Storm:
1. an atmospheric disturbance characterized by a strong wind, usually accompanied by rain, snow, sleet, or hail, and, often, thunder and lightning
2. any heavy fall of snow, rain, or hail
3. anything resembling a storm
Talisman: (magic figure, horoscope, one with power to avert evil, to complete)
1. something, as a ring or stone, bearing engraved figures or symbols supposed to bring good luck, keep away evil, etc.; amulet
2. anything supposed to have magic power; a charm
Wolfsbane: (to kill)
a tall, Eurasian plant with showy, hooded, yellow flowers
Wolverine:
a stocky, ferocious, flesh-eating mammal with thick fur
