Chapter Two
Looking up from the blade which he was cleaning, Aeruil looked around quickly then snapped his attention back to the weapon. Where is she.. He though to himself, I must speak to her now. Again looking up from the task at hand he glanced around quickly and then back down to the long sword which was long ago clean.
Sighing he placed the rag aside and looked over the shining edge which usually hung at his side. Inscribed along the blade were fancy written characters of old elvish. He was quite proud of the inscription actually. He'd had a hard time finding such an old elvish language. Though gibberish to most, except perhaps a few of the high elves who still lingered, the phrase read, "Forever in your debt, I live my life for thou, shalt no harm come to thee."
"Hah.." he muttered as he set the weapon beside him with a clank. Standing up he sauntered a couple steps and pushed the braid of auburn hair over his shoulder. Frowning he turned and looked back at the sword. Quickly he walked back and gathered the shining metal, sheathing it back into his scabbard. "Pathetic," he growled, "absolutely pathetic. An inscription such as that, and in such a predicament as this." The inscription was written for this two younger sisters, Elzamine and Indila, whom he vowed would never come to harm as long as he lived.
Stomping his foot and once again growling in frustration, he sighed and sat down once again, not noticing the figure advancing towards him.
"Brother," a voice stated, seemingly not wanting to utter any more than the single word.
"About time, Elzamine where have you been?" questioned Aeruil in an annoyed tone.
"Where I always am," she stated matter-of-factly as she sat down next to her brother. Smoothing out some faintly visible creases in her dark green dress, she looked over to her brother only to find him gazing at her expectantly. "In the forest, by the creek," she finished and folded her hands together neatly.
"As usual," he stated, Elzamine nodded in agreement. "Where is Meoi?" his blue eyes once again settling on his sister.
"She went with Alcarin," she replied, rather baffled by the question. "She wanted to see Nenarye."
"Elzamine! " he groused and stood up shaking his head and putting his index fingers to his temples. "That was over an hour ago. I told you not to go outside Cuulraef by yourself. You're always so irresponsible."
Angered by the comment, the female elf stood and walked up to her brother, looking him in the eyes she scowled. Being at least six inches shorter than he, she was sure the scene was humorous to anyone who may be watching. Though half wanting to laugh herself, she pushed the idea to the back of her mind and continued to gaze at her brother harshly.
"Irresponsible? I was just outside Cuulraef, Aeruil! Heaven forbid the squirrels turn on me and snatch me away. Whatever would I do without your words of wisdom, advice to guide me or protection from all evil," she snarled sarcastically, he green eyes piercing into his, though he seemed unfazed.
"Always so haughty sister," he stated sharply. "You need to get over that pride issue of yours and realize you're not always okay. Just because you think you don't want to admit it, doesn't mean it is not tr--"
"I don't need your help or guidance!" she interrupted. "I'm fine without you acting like my shadow." She paused for a moment, "perhaps it's you that needs to realize that you can't always help everyone, and that not everyone needs your help."
Aggravated with his sister's stubbornness, Aeruil backed up from the female elf. "Oh of course you don't need my help. Can handle yourself and all those with you right?" Elzamine still glared at him as he spoke. "Then explain to me why Indilia is missing," he finished cooly, feeling he'd made his point.
Looking away quickly, Elzamine looked down to her hands which had subconsciously grasped onto the ends of her cloak like shawl. Looking away half out of anger that her brother would say such a thing, she also had adverted her gaze due to the start of tears that welled in her eyes.
How dare he? She thought to herself. Indilia is my twin, our blood. He knows I love her just as much as he. There was nothing Alcarin or I could have done against the Jiievu and Gapexi.
Observing the posture of his not so enraged sister, Aeruil felt sorry. The bold female had obviously taken the comment to heart. Shifting from foot to foot for a moment and slightly biting his lip, he regretted the harsh comment. "Elzamine, I.."
"You know," she interrupted subtly, "it must run in the family." she paused for a moment, then finally looked up to her brother who was watching her intensively. "Explain to me to where our parents are.." she muttered, barely audible to him, but she knew he'd hear it.
Aeruil just looked back at his sister after her comment, it was harsh, but just as well, his was just as cruel. Surprised by her words, he still wasn't shocked she'd said them. Things were always like this between he and his sister, she wasn't the kind to take lightly, and she never wanted to be told how to do things. Indilia was the opposite, and though he criticized both of them, he respected their original traits.
Brushing her hands down her dress a couple times, Elzamine looked up to her brother, they looked at each other for a few moments and then nodded. "Ready to go home?" she questioned as if nothing had happened.
Nodding he walked towards his sister and offered his arm, which she linked hers around. Saying nothing else they started towards the house. Such was an apology to each other in their eyes.
