“And scars are souvenirs you never lose, the past is never far. Did you lose yourself somewhere out there, did you get to be a star? And don’t it make you sad to know that life is more than who we are. We grow up way to fast and now there’s nothing to believe.” -‘Name’ Goo Goo Dolls "So ya want anything to eat?" questioned Reno to Karia as he scooped his half peeled orange off the floor. "I think I'll just have an orange too," she replied as she walked past him to the fridge, "I'm not really that hungry." Not that I can blame her.. "Alright then," said Reno as he sat down in a nearby chair and finished peeling his orange. Karia took a chair close by and started on her own fruit. "Hey Reno.. Can I ask you something?" questioned Karia, not looking up from her orange which she seemed to take a sudden great interest in. "Shoot," he replied looking up at her. She's still acting weird.. Meeting his gaze she smirked, "don't use that expression too freely. You could end up getting more than what you bargained for," she laughed. "Any way, why'd you become a Turk in the first place?" The red head shifted rather uncomfortably, then bit into his orange. "Mnh.. ifs a rafer wong stowy.." he mumbled while trying to chew. "Well I have some time, let's hear it," Karia ordered. "And don't do that again.." she commented as she looked from the Turk, to the orange. "Dof vwhat?" questioned Reno dumbfounded. "That! Talk and chew, it's disgusting," the brunette glared. "..Yea yea, sorry.." replied Reno with a smirk as he took another bite of his orange. "Don't give me that 'yes mom' attitude either," Karia grinned back. "Well you wanna know why I joined the Turks, there's a good place to start." explained Reno as he set the rest of the orange down on the table. His face turning serious almost instantaneously. I never thought I'd be telling this story again.. Elena and Rude don't even know it, only Tseng. This woman makes me do the damndest things.. "I've always lived in the slums, I wasn't giving you the 'yes mom' attitude as you call it. Because I don't know what it was like to have a mother, or a father for that matter. An orphan down in the slums, I don't remember a hell of a lot to tell ya the truth. My earliest memories are of early teens when I was running around as a little thief doing what I could to stay alive. When you grow up not having anyone around, you tend not to give a damn. Perfect for a Turk you know, I'm sure.." Reno took another bite of his orange, then set it back on the table. Looking to Karia, she looked on with interest, yet stayed mute. Her eyes seemed to ask for him to continue, and so he did. "You learn to fight in the slums, and I was the best, not to be conceited or anything," he smirked. "Even have the battle scars to prove it," he subconsciously brushed a finger over the scar on the left side of his face. "I'm not exactly sure how it all happened to tell you the truth, I just remember being the one everyone feared, for my age group any way. Not much respect, but ya do what you need to do to survive. That's when Tseng found me. I was your ideal recruit for SOLDIER, and well, I suppose Turks in his eye at the time. He gave me two choices, spend my days a sewer rat down there in the slums, or go with him and make a life for myself. It wasn't a tough choice by any means. I already had the will to kill, and the ability to do such quickly and efficiently. Went through the ranks of SOLDIER, then into the life of the Turks.. I won't get into that, I would assume you know what it's all about. Al the bad stuff they never tell you about when you join. Sometimes I think I may have been better off staying a sewer rat.. Sometimes.. Any way, finally the meteor incident hit a couple years ago, and well that changed everything. Oh and look at the miracle, I've gone from the hunter to the hunted. Not that I can say I regret such.." Reno stood up quickly, grabbed the rest of the orange and walked over to a nearby window without looking at Karia once. Gazing out, his back to her he ate the fruit in his hand. He'd spit out most of his life story in about a span of four minutes and Karia was still trying to register it all. I understand more than he thinks.. I know all about the Turks from my files.. but.. their childhoods were never described. Reno's makes perfect sense though.. the hunter to the hunted. Cold blood killer.. and it still haunts him. Though he won't admit it, I can see it in him.. Karia kept her eyes on the male by her window who gazed out it blankly without seeming to notice anything. It really must effect him, he's usually not so quiet.. except for when I saw him in the woods. There's more to him.. I knew there was, more than everyone gave him credit for.. his file itself was mysterious.. but even as he tells more.. I... Gods what is happening to me... Why am I thinking about him like this.. perhaps it's because I-- "'Ria you got all the stuff you're taking packed?" questioned Reno suddenly, turning around he walked towards her with a smile. As if the whole conversation never happened. "Um.. yeah. There's a couple boxes in my room, and I'll grab the alcohol from the fridge after I change. That's all I need.." she stated, looking at him with wonder, attempting to read anything off his face. She couldn't of course, not that she was surprised, he masked such well. All Turks were trained to do such, and he was no lacking exception. "Alright, go get changed then, I'll start loading up your stuff when you're done." he expressed, "I'll grab the alcohol while you change, " he grinned then started to search through the fridge. Walking to her room Karia closed the door behind her and leaned her back against it. I can't believe it.. I just can't.. Me, the emotionless.. dear gods... I love him... |
