Clinical Analyst / Release Manager / Change Manager

Member of a team that installed new hardware and a new medical information system (LastWord) for the Our Lady of Mercy Healthcare System. Responsible for routine software and major version upgrades as well as system maintenance, report writing, and troubleshooting. This includes label (sticky and plain paper) and screen creation and revision; routing of labels and print jobs using spoolcom and via the application; creating and revising enform reports; maintaining the pharmacy module with monthly First Data Bank downloads; creating and maintaining the terminal table and printer files; and use of expert rules. Received two performance-based salary increases with increasing autonomy and broader reponsibilties.

Responsibility to oversee office management, including maintaining multiple databases; generating reports; maintaining and updating web pages; maintaining filing systems; and assisting with logistical arrangements for meetings. Also perform bibliographic searches; create and manage bibliographic databases; assemble and organize scientific literature and survey data; prepare presentations of data; write summaries of research literature, committee meetings, and workshops; prepare correspondence and other documentation to assist the unit director as needed, utilizing demonstrated analytical skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills. Assisting in the organization of the new Office of Special Projects (OSP) of the Policy and Global Affairs (PD). The PD is one of the major standing units within the National Research Council (NRC). The PD oversees and coordinates the work of the Committee on Science, Engineering, and Public Policy (COSEPUP), the Government-University-Industry Research Roundtable, the Board on Science, Technology, and Economic Policy (STEP), and the Board on Sustainable Development. Special projects involved in or currently working on for the units include: Observations on the President’s FY 1999 Federal Science and Technology Budget; International Benchmarking of U.S. Research Fields; Adviser, Teacher, Role Model, and Friend: On Being a Mentor to Students in Science and Engineering; Preparing for the 21st Century report series.

Received a performance-based salary increase and a two grade-level promotion.

Program Assistant - PD & COSEPUP

Duties include project management responsibilities covering many projects at a time as well as increased fiscal responsibility and budget reporting for the newly created PD office and for special projects of other units, supervising temporary staff, electronic and library research assignments, World Wide Web/Internet homepage creation and development, and outreach. Special projects involved in for the units include: Careers in Science and Engineering: A Student Planning Guide to Grad School and Beyond; Improving the Environment: An Evaluation of the DOE's Environmental Management Program; Linking Science and Technology to Society’s Environmental Goals; An Assessment of the National Science Foundation’s Science and Technology Centers Program; A National Conversation on Science and Engineering Doctoral Education: An Emerging Consensus.

Received a performance-based salary increase, a grade-level promotion, a monetary award for staff performance, and a prestigious staff Certificate of Appreciation in March 1996.

Project Assistant - STEP

Duties involved support work, including administrative and project support for the NRC’s STEP Board until November 1994. From November 1994 until April 1995 work continued with COSEPUP. The NRC is the research arm of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the Institute of Medicine. These honorary organizations are non-governmental and non-profit. Special projects involved in for the units include: Standards, Conformity Assessment, and Trade: Into the 21st Century; Reshaping the Graduate Education of Scientists and Engineers; On Being A Scientist: Responsible Conduct in Research; Technology and Modernization of Mexican Industry; and Federal Investment in R&D and Technology.

Received a performance-based salary increase.

INTERNATIONAL REPUBLICAN INSTITUTE - Washington, D.C.

Assistant Program Officer

Responsible for monitoring political and economic developments in the former Eastern Bloc countries of Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, and Montenegro. Actively researched program possibilities, developed program initiatives and directed the development and implementation of in-country projects. Maintained ongoing consultations with representatives from the United States government and top-level government officials and organizations abroad. Traveled extensively throughout Central and Eastern Europe, in overseeing the logistical, political and economic preparations for 15 to 100 member international election observation missions. Approved grant proposals and administered grants received through the U.S. government (AID and NED) to ensure that budgetary guidelines and objectives were met. Successfully supervised staffs of up to 15.

Performed advance work for the IRI international election observation mission to the Czech and Slovak Federated Republic parliamentary elections held in June 1990. Arranged all logistics and political meetings with top-level government officials, the Institute's president and political parties.

Mr. Sevcik is accomplished in most standard word processing and spreadsheet applications and has had experience with HTML coding and homepage development.

He enjoys tennis, skiing, and bicycling, as well as cultural activities and events. He was born in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia (now the capital of the Slovak Republic). Mr. Sevcik and his wife, Renee, have three children, Ashley (6/98), Ryan (2/01), and Paul (5/02).
