Resaca Confederate Cemetery

Georgia's First Confederate Cemetery

Dedicated to the Memory of Miss Mary Jane Green, Miss Martha Phyatt Green Sister of Mary, and two Black Slaves, One of them being a Cook of the Green Family and the other a young girl that worked with Phyatt, Their names are unknown at this time. The Ladies of the Resaca Ladies Memorial Association For their Hard work and Devotion to the Work of Burying our Fallen Confederate Dead here at Resaca, Ga. During the Battle of Resaca May 13 - 15, 1864.

Special Thanks To the United Daughters of the Confederacy for their time and caring hands that have cared for the Cemetery for all these years, and to The Sons of Confederate Veterans Gen. Stand Watie Camp # 915 of Calhoun, Ga., For when the Cemetery needed help they came to its aid.

Below is a Link of to All Known Confederate Soldiers Buried at the Resaca Confederate Cemetery in Resaca, Ga., All Buried here are from the wounded and those who Died here During the Battle of Resaca, Ga., May 13 - 15, 1864 in the 1st. Major Battle of the Atlanta Campaign. A few are ones who died of Disease in 1863 from CSA Hospital near Resaca, Dalton, Calhoun, Chichamauga, Tunnel Hill, and Ringgold, Ga.  Not all did died here but were brought here in 1866 as part of the Georgia Memorial Associations project along with Mrs. Charles Williams of Columbus, Ga., A Cousin of Mary's. Ms. Mary Green was also apart of this work to bury Confederate Died at Marietta, Ga.,  and did with other Ladies in the state work long and hard to bring to a final resting place those Soldiers that had died at Chickamauga, Tunnel Hill, Ringgold Gap, Catoosa Springs, and Look Out Mtn.

When Country called,  we died.
