Message from the President

Our new signage by the upper doorways and elevator was finally installed prior to Christmas and we have had numerous compliments. We like that it puts a name and face to our Centre. We hope you also like it. This was made possible with funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. See MEDIA RELEASE October 17, 2007.

We will shortly be commencing renovations to the Program Room and the Cafeteria. The Board of Directors is committed to this project, so we will be moving ahead with the improvements. This room needs a major overhaul, as you suggested last year and we are working with an Interior Designer to improve the interior look of this room and ask for your patience.

The Cafeteria renovation will also commence soon and we wish to acknowledge the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 139, Streetsville for their generous contribution to this project. We apologize for the inconveniences these renovations may cause, but we are sure you will all appreciate the finished product.

As this is my last letter to you all as the President, I wish to thank each and every one for your support during the last four years. I have truly enjoyed the partnerships we all shared. Thank you to those members who came to the eight President's Teas with Sue and myself and I sincerely hope you enjoyed my baking as much as I enjoyed baking for you.

~ Shirley Corbett, President

Message from the Executive Director

Thank you for your continued support of Square One Older Adult Centre. Together, we have achieved great things in the last few months. We thank our members who contributed to a very successful 2007 Donor Board campaign. We thank the 136 volunteers (adults and students) who contributed 1430 hours to our Gift Wrapping and Coat Check fundraisers in Square One raising funds for the Older Adult Centre. We thank our partner Square One Shopping Centre for making this fundraiser possible by providing the store location for the month of December. Square One also donated the wrapping paper, decoration, promotion of the event, and other supplies.

We thank our founding partner, the Mississauga Central Lions Club, for their generous donation to the Older Adult Centre this year. That money is used to go toward capital improvements, volunteer recognition and our recent Seniors Information and Active Living Fair.

We have some wonderful things planned for 2008. We plan on expanding our programs to satellite locations in Mississauga in the Fall. Stay tuned for more details as they roll out.

Please take note of the purple insert in this newsletter. One side is our annual Tree of Sharing donation form. The campaign starts April 1, 2008. The other side is an information poster on our Annual General Meeting on April 24, 2008. We do have a number of Board of Director positions to fill, so please consider one of these.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to another super year together.

~ Sue Hesjedahl, Executive Director

We warmly acknowledge and pay tribute to our Volunteers for your hard work, commitment, generous support and for making such a meaningful difference at the Square One Older Adult Centre. New Fundraiser for the Older Adult Centre

We're pleased to present some exciting news about a new fundraising program for our Centre. It's called the Avgen Gift Card Program.

If you are planning to purchase gift cards/certificates for any upcoming birthdays, special occasions or for your regular shopping, make your dollars do double, even triple, duty! Purchase your gift cards/certificates from a long list of vendors and together we will generate a significant contribution for our Centre. Avgen carries gift cards/certificates from a large number of major retailers, including: Loblaws, IGA, Sobeys, Price Chopper, Foodland, No Frills, Zehrs, Fortinos, Canadian Superstore, Safeway, Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Home Hardware, BlockBuster, Swiss Chalet, Harveys, Wendys, Second Cup, Cineplex, Future Shops, The Keg, La Senza, Longos, Pizza Pizza, GAP, Old Navy, Kelsey's, The Bay, Zellers, Pioneer Petroleums, Petro Canada, Esso, Ultramar, Rogers Video, Sears, Shoppers, Staples, Winners, and many others.

Avgen has agreements in place with all the participating retailers, so that they can sell the gift certificates/cards to our Centre at a discount. Our members and their families/friends buy the gift cards/certificates from us for face value and redeem them for full value. The best part is there is no extra cost to you!!

Orders are due the last Friday of every month, and will be ready to pick up one week later. Please see the Administration Office for an order form and to answer any of your questions.
