The Databass club night (Glasgow, Edinburgh, London) not only raises much-needed funds for the magazine, but allows the work of underground of artists to be seen and heard. Nights usually include live musicians, DJ sets, readings, performances and an excellent chance for the readers of the magazine to meet each other in person.

Guests have included Being (signed to Andy Weatherall's Emissions label), Pure's DJ Twitch, Jason from Pussypower, Panic from Tangent, Guy, Data Collectiv artists Re:Search and Esoferric (about which more below), The Association of Autonomous Astronauts, The Society For The Termination of Art and the enigmatic Future Sound of Joppa.

The Collectiv has launched it's first venture into music publishing with a compilation cassette entitled 'Databass: Eclectic Audio'. The cassette is available at cost price and features tracks from unsigned musicians across the UK who exist outside the mainstream of the music industry. True to form, the cassette cannot be regarded as 'easy listening' - the sounds are deliberately uncompromising and challenge existing ideas of what 'music' truly is.

Both Re:Search and Esoferric have played a large part in shaping the sounds of the club night, perhaps only because data collectiv activists are involved in some way. Audio extracts will be online soon.

At some points a tangled, layered electronic sound, related to techno, electro and hard house but somewhere above and beyond simple monodimensional dance music. At other points a haunted, deep soundtrack, experimental but elegantly melodic. At no time is Re:Search about names and faces, photos in magazines or personalities outside of the sound. Maybe we are pretentious, but it is justified as long as we are willing to explore and experiment.

Esoferric are / is / and may well continue be Stuart B and a randomly assembled collection of electronic musical instruments. They have been exploring their own limitations for a number of years and have assembled a new compilation of work entitled "Music For Dogs" [described by various as "Ennio Morricone discovers jungle" or "a bit electro-goth for my liking, thanks very much"]. In the future, Esoferric may well change their name or they may well create psy-phi soup choons with the Nomad Association of Autonomous Astronauts or they might just split themselves up.
Interested ears may contact Esoferric via email.
