From Chapters 1 - 5 in the novel "The Giver", there were many things that occurred in a short time. Because of that, things weren't really straight on. In this response though, I will be telling you what I think/feel about the event that occurred in these chapters, and I'll be comparing myself to one of the characters.

Jonas, the main character, was at a stage where he was getting close to the 12 years old ceremony. He had a mother, father, sister, Lily, and baby brother, Gabriel. His sister was getting close to the 8 years old ceremony. By reading about the events that occurred in this story, I was able to tell, this wasn't normal, it had to be another century, or located in a totally different place. It was said in the book, when you turn to be 12 years old, you have a big ceremony that would be the last of all your years, it changes you totally, you can't be so childish anymore. Many things happen. You also get wantings at that certain time of your life. Another thing that seemed abnormal was children had to bathe the old people if they volunteered to. The children enjoyed it too. This story is a different one compared to others.

I'll be comparing myself to Jonas. Firstly, I'm not really careful with my language and always say it correctly, I'm not strong at that at all. If there is something personal I have in my mind, I don't tell people if it's really personal, it depends... I don't go saying something that would embarrass me. If I had to bathe old people, I wouldn't enjoy it, and in the first place, I wouldn't volunteer to do that. So, I think Jonas and I have many things not in common.

This is what I have read about in this novel, and I've pointed out what I think about it so far. The book isn't really bad, but it's pretty confusing and abnormal and that makes it a bit weird for me.
