“The Wretched Of The Earth”
by Franz Fanon

I HAVE just started reading this book after much thought and wonder.
The first time I saw it was in the inlay of the RAGE AGAINST THE MACHNE ALBUM which I purchased almost seven years ago. Since then I have come familiar with the name FANON, especially when relating to Post-Colonial matters, matters which I am currently examining as an indirect product of colonialism myself, what can I say than it was inevitable I would come across a European cultured author who is of African Descent?

Well from the direction of the preface I beleive he is serious, MR. Fanon that is, about what he speaks: Total REVOLUTION, TOTAL AFRICAN REVOLUTION.
A REVOLUTION FOR THE THIRD WORLD.

The book so far is written at the time of the Algerian Independent crisis during the sixties and before then.  Quite a while ago yet what he speaks of concerning racism and native identity echoes even today or else why read it?  So far the book as been pretty graphic in its description of racial that is black and white segregation, but I hope I will get pass this and further see how he the writer hopes to call natives of Africa and Asia to see why unity is necessary because if we don’t like ourselves or think that nothing that reflects our being could influence ourselves positvely then who will?

Wretched:
"In order to assimilate and to experience the oppressor’s culture, the native has had to leave certain of his intellectual possessions in pawn.  This is very noticeable in the aptitude of the native intellectual to carry on a two-sided discussion; for he cannot eliminate himself
when confronted with an object or an idea."

                        Fanon

"Self-criticism has been talked about of late, but few people realise it is an African institution.  It is communal self-criticism of course, and with a note of humour, because everybody is relaxed and because in the last result we all want the same things."
                        Fanon

"Fanon speaks out loud; we Europeans can hear him, as the fact that you hold this book in your hands proves; Is he not afraid that the colonial powers may take advantage of his sincerity? No, he fears nothing."

Sartre the French Philosopher’s  Preface
of "Wretched of The Earth"

-I am reading this book as part of my liberation within my dark-centre my divided cultural social sense of seeing myself and others who look like me.
