The Scene
OMG!! This was quite possibly the best show. The band doesn't agree with me, but oh well. It think it was perfect. Maybe it didn't sound too hott on stage, but it was perfect in the audience. PERFECT!! I would scream except for the fact that it's like midnight and I haven't eaten or slept since Monday.. So, I don't exactly have the engery. The band didn't either, or so they said, but it was SO good. AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!! Makes you want to cry.

Anyway.. I had Sociology right, it's my Tuesday-Thursday class from 5PM-6:15PM.. Well, I didn't go on Tuesday, I had to sell tickets, and today I had to leave early. My professor was like "You aren't making a very good first impression".. Yea. I just appologized, especially since I might miss class next Thursday to go to L.A. to see that show. Ouch. I'm praying for a miracle and to not end up getting dropped from this class. Anyway.. Erin came and picked me up at 5:45PM from college, and we left from there. I drank three of my four Red Bull's in class and my professor was looking at me all funny. I don't think she likes me. So, we left college, I drank my forth Red Bull and we got on the freeway. All was good up until the split. Some dude hit another dude and the first and second lanes on the freeway were closed off for a good chunk of freeway. But, of course, you know stupid people on the freeway.. They can't drive, so it was backed up for a few miles. Dumb freeway. Oh well.

So, we finally made it to Cane's and Weston was already there. It was sad. Never have I ever gotten to a show after one of them.. So sad. Oh well. I got over it. We talked for a while about wierd stuff. How Erin has a stopsign in her trunk. How the Luann comic in last Sunday's newspaper was about Acura's. How I want his Acura.. I ended up having Erin take pictures of his car, so they'll be up soon. It was dirty. LoL. Oh well. Brant ended up showing up late due to the ridiculous mess on the freeway. Erin ran out in front of his truck with her stopsign and he was all laughing. Then, he and Weston went off to go and unload stuff. Aaron and Sean were late, as usual, and Weston was complaining. I don't blame him. So, Erin and I sat onher trunk and talked about stuff. People we know. People we knew. This wierd guy on his cell phone. The long haired dude with the little dog. But, then Aaron and Sean came rolling in. Sean waved, and Aaron didn't notice at first, but then stoped driving, turned, looked, smiled lightly and waved. It was funny. Thanks Aaron.  :) So, they all went off and set up.

Erin and I eventually heard Brant's drums and got up to go inside. Oh, before that Weston came back and went to his car to get CD's to pass out and handed them to us to us to pass out. He was like, "Can you pass these out?", and I was like "No". He started to walk away, saying "Oh.. ok", but then laughed and came backl. It was funny. So, we passed out CD's. As we headed over to the door we saw Daniel. The guy from Mira Mesa, that took the dog home at the last show. Yea.. He had the dog with him again. It was.. eh.. Anyway, we went inside, and Brant was all banging on the drums, all Phil Collins style. It was awesome. He makes me smle. Aaron was messing with his guitar, but it sounded cool. He was playing Dashboard Confessional from what Erin said. I'm not sure, but it was good either way. Sean was tuning his bass and Weston was lost in thought. He was like in the Brant zone or something, it was peculiar, and kinda creepy. But, it was ok, because they were all tired, and way out of it, so it's ok. Then, Weston was sitting on the drum platform, guitar in lap, and Erin said he looked like he was at show and tell.. It was funny. Wierd girl.

Around 8:30 the sound guy told them to start playing. So, of course they did. They were sad that there weren't a lot of people there, but decided that it must've been since there were so many people at Cane's, so they were just burnt out. I am, or have been, but I try not to miss the shows. I love these kids. Anyway, they started with 'Drifter', it was awesome. They haven't played 'Drifter' for a while. I think the last time I heard it was at the Epicentre show. Doesn't matter though. It was perfect tonight, simply wonderful. Weston's mic was set too low, so you couldn't hear him, but that got fixed later on. The song was perfect though. Everything. It was just perfect. The beginning to the perfectness. They ended that and were sorta sound-cheking or turning or whatever in between songs. But, they fixed Weston's mic, so you could hear him. Aaron was saying how he was scared about something and Weston was like "I'm always scared". Don't be scared. LoL. 'We All Want' came right after that. Aaron was all wandering around with mic and micstand, singing for the beginning of the song. He doesn't play his guitar for a good portion of it, mostly just the beginning. It was beautiful. There's this one part where he sings "doncha know", and it was SO hott. Exsquisitely done I must say. Aaron and Weston were perfectly in sync during the harmonies. It was almost disgusting how good it sounded. Seriously, it was intense. But, it was so excellent.

Daniel was rocking out like a mother, and 'Moon-Calf Friend' came on. I love that song and it sounds SO good live when it's right. It was right. It was psychotically right. Seriously. I tell no lies. You know that. Everyone knows that. It was perfect. Quite possibly the best it has ever been played in the history of the band. I mean.. It was better than the CD cut of it. They don't agree with me about this show being this good, but if you were there, and you heard it.. You'd agree. The break was perfect. Aaron full-on hit the note during "again", and Weston cast this smile as he did. Aaron was all on his toes during the lines "So many notes are on the fret board" and "And the notes you sing, you know that they feel cold". It was funny, but in a very enjoyable. Almost everything about that band is. And, Aaron started swaying back and forth, his guitar in hand, this quirky look on his face, and the mic stand in the other hand.. It was hilarious. But, it made the song even better. Watching good times and hearing good times, what more can you ask?

That led into 'Eating Tinfoil'.. I know I've said it before. But, have I ever told you how much I love this song? LoL. No, but in all honesty. It's perfect. There's no doubt about it. It's perfect. Erin was running around me taking pictures of the band, and yelling "Stop living your life for someone else" at me, and Aaron almost seemed to be looking at me at that line. Wierd. Maybe I'm hallucinating because my subconscience wants me to change.. Then again maybe everyone else just wants me to change to begin with. I dunno. Doesn't matter. Weston kept on messing with his guitar through the song, but it still sounded perfectly dandy. At one of the rises in the song, Weston had this phat jump on stage. It was aweseom. And, it's this song that Brant does the psycho drum thing! Where he's playing all off to the left and then randomly out of nowhere flies a hand over to the cymbals on the right. It's so trippy to watch. But, that's Brant for you. Hehe. Either way, it was perfect. 'Eating Tinfoil', I love this song, and it was perfect.

Daniel yelled out "I'm sorry!" He's a little wierd. But, they did play 'Sorry' after that. There was so much emotion on stage during that song. Genuinely. Maybe when they're tired and out of it, they let down all of their barriers and just play. Let it go. Because, it was the best I've EVER seen that song played. It's been played fabulously many times before, but this time it was greatly compelling. Aaron had so much emotion burning through the words in that song. The break in the beginning just after the into was right on, as was the break just before the come down. Aaron did this wierd little curving-neck-and-your-whole-body-follows-like-a-ripple thing. It was cute. He almost fell at one point though because his foot got caught up in his guitar chord. But, it didn't matter. There was nothing that could break the synergy of this show. It was impecable.

'Lightshow' came after that. It was perfect. Aaron was all into his lyrics, but it almost seemed that he rushing them. I don't know. I'm probably wrong. Either way the break was perfect. Tonight was the night of awesome breaks. Speaking of breaks, they played 'Know Me' after that. Aaron was all into his mic. It sounded like Sean messed up on bass in the beginning of the song, but he swears it wasn't him, that it was some other factor. I don't know, but alright. I'll believe him. Weston was still checking his guitar through the whole thing. It was kinda funny, but I felt bad. He was knealing and listening to it out of his amp as he played, and he kept making this disprving face. Oh well, what can you do? But, the harmony.. OMG.. Faultless. It was so stunning. Weston and Aaron hit that, so well. They were complete, feeling each other out, and it just flowed flawlessly. And, the break, like I was saying, right on cue. Picturesque.

Nick loves 'Burn Purple', but Nick didn't go to this show, so too bad for him. He had to work. However, they played it. I would scream, but it wouldn't do anything. "The world is dying out" and "You and I are barely alive".. By the book. Unspoiled. Seamless. It was simply picture perfect. And, it sounded SO good. Weston started getting some feedback in the midst of it all, but it didn't matter. Sean was standing on the drum platform for the entire song. It was funny, but it was great.

I mean, this song..

There was the feedback.. The noise.. A light commotion as people chattered between songs.. Positioning of bodies across the stage.. A confusion amongst the audience.. Then.. A soft chord to instigate.. Closed his eyes.. A waking breath.. Time paused for a moment.. Comely waves of grain.. Dusk.. A tree atop a hill.. Midst of nowhere.. Rustling in leaves.. Night sky.. Starlight.. Bleeding canvas.. The sky illuminates.. Wreath of rain at your feet.. An indigo hue.. Nothing could've augmented.. "Put your mind at ease"..

Indefectible, that's all you can say.

The show ended, and Erin and I passed out some more CD's to those that wanted them, then went outside to talk with the band. Aaron seemed in a bad mood. Brant came over to talk to me. He didn't want to hear about how the show was, he thought initially it was bad, but I assured him it wasn't. Then.. We got to talking about my reviews.. I'm sorry is all I can say. I really am. But, yea. Anyway, after that we were talking about wierd people that come to shows. Heh. Yea. That one will make you laugh in itself if you have any idea what I'm talking about. But, then Erin and I walked back to her car, and I just got to thinking. I felt bad. About these reviews. And, so I was doing my dumb dwelling thing, and I wanted to talk to Aaron.. Because he was in a bad mood, so I felt bad. But, I just sat there like a bump on a log. Loser. Anyway.. Brant drove away, but waved, I smiled and waved back. Then, Aaron and Sean were in the process of leaving, and they stopped. We said our goodbyes, and I assured them that the show was good. They were surprised, and read my notes, and that was when Sean swore he didn't mess up on bass that it was something else. It was funny. Aaron said he was actually going to read my reviews.. That could be both good and bad. Yea. He told me not to wear myself out with the band.. Heh. Too late. I haven't slept in five days. It's 1:14 in the morning. No sleep for me.. Again. Yay. But, it's ok. I love you guys, just keep it up. Because when it's good, it's golden. And, when it's bad, it's so damn near to good that no one really notices.. Except me. :)

Now, for humor, and maybe even inspiration in some sense.. Some quotes on perfection. Enjoy!
