Nestled in a residential area of Winnipeg are a surprising variety of plant and animal species. Where exactly is this, you ask? Well, in early October 2002, the SCI20FH class of J.H. Bruns Collegiate decided to check out the Lakewood/Willowlake Retention Pond in southeastern Winnipeg. Some groups investigated trees, others birds, water micro-organisms or soil. We discovered that the pond ecosystem is not just water and grass, but home to many organisms, which adds to the natural beauty of our area. This urban oasis is home to many species of trees and wildlife, and there are many activities in which you can take part! Even if you don't live in Southdale, retention ponds are located all over the world. In this website, I will try to give you a virtual tour so you can see the pond without leaving your computer. So, what are you waiting for? Discover the retention pond! |
