Gazing at the Severn

Gazing at the Severn

Cast grey against grey sky

Where once a Summer’s dreams were born

An old man comes to die

Your watchful windows open wide

Her haunting dark brown eyes

Grey grey Severn staring out

At the changing of the tides

Drawing out to ocean seas

Deep and tranquil green

Tear-stained rusted memories

Of Summer loving dreams

Cool grey mist blow off the waves

And settle in my hair

The changing of the tides has come

And one again I’m here

Gazing at the Severn

From deep within my soul

Gazing at the Severn

Through eyes of long ago

Screeching Gull

Screeching gull on ocean’s wind

Cawing at the tide

O’er the wind-chilled whitecaps

So gracefully you glide

Settle now upon the beach

To dig into the sand

Then flutterquick you fly away

To another promised land

Storm

Storm blows in from Richmond

Hear the foghorn blow

Ship the oars and hurry lads

‘Tis safer down below

30 knots and rising

Cresting five foot seas

Crashing waves upon the bow

God bless out 12 ton keel

Tears

Tears into the ocean

Salt to salty seas

Long ago have washed away

The love you felt for me

For changing people, like the tides

Seek new coasts on which to ride

So see horizons

Not what’s behind

Mellow Daze

Mellow daze of feelings

Deep and warm to me

Blow into my mind again

Sitting by the sea

Quiet ocean boardwalk

Cold and windyhazed

Don’t see many people out

On these mellow daze.

Untitled

Deep in wavy ocean dreams

Of long hot summer nights

In early April’s cold grey dawn

I watch the seagull’s floght

Sand in my hair

Sand in my shoes

The misty wind

Brings memories of you

To a soul that’s fallen out of time

And refuses to forget

The tender nights of talking

That summer that we met

Yet now I feel the fade away

Myself melting into mist

Up and down the coast I blow

My memories adrift

Boardwalk Girl

Walk upon the boardwalk girl

On misty April’s morn

Let the wind glide through your hair

Windswept beachbrownblonde

Feel it rush across your face

And thunder in your ears

Walk upon the boardwalk girl

Forget about the tears

Past the ringing penny arcade

Past the pizza place

Walk in quiet solitude

The wind upon your face

Ocean Morn

Ocean morn you wear a veil

Of ocean see grey mist

I vaguely see the outline

Of the offshore boats and ships

Early grey mist mornings

That drift along the coast

And burn off in the afternoon

To let the sunshine boast

Early ocean morn you hold

A peacefulness for me

Standing in your veil of mist

I find tranquility

Eyes Cry at the Ocean

Eyes cry at the ocean

Staring out to sea

Sparkling in the shoreline mist

Cheek into the breeze

Eyes cry at the ocean

Into misty green

Calling back the memories

And weatherbeaten dreams

Eyes cry at the ocean

Tears fall in the sand

Have all the grains of summer’s love

Slipped between my hands?

Eyes cry at the ocean

As the sun sets orangegold

Still my heart is longing

For one I cannot hold

Eyes cry at the ocean

Into seanight’s cold

Eyes cry at the ocean

Eyes that cry alone

First Smile of the Summer

The first smile of the summer

Shone out on the cold grey beach

Shining brightly through bluegrey mist

Until my eyes it reached

Thank you sunshinesmiling girl

For helping make the sun

Shine inside on cold grey days

Waiting for the one

Captain

Howling gusts of seawind

Whip whitecaps on the waves

And hurl the brine upon the beach

With 40 knots of rage

To thundercrash upon the coast

And windwhip into spray

To smite the cheeks of sailors

That haven’t made the bay

Lost at sea and storming

Cold ocean blowing hard

And I the worried captain

With 40 men aboard

Paint

Paint upon the canvas

Colors of the sun

Pretty beachy summertime

Full of friends and fun

Stormy Ocean

So grey now bleak ocean sky

Cool mist lays on your beach

Grains of sand sting windswept

Upon my cold bare feet

Chill my face, the ocean winds

Spray sparkling in my eye

I was born to stormy seas

On a stormy sea I’ll die

Roaring waves with thundercrash

Windblown ocean spray

That splinters sailors’ boats like sticks

To wash up in the brae

Hurl your might fury

Raging tempest storm

For you touch so deeply

The place my soul was born

Misty Ocean

Misty ocean night

That rolls in on the tide

Smother me with warm seamist

And touch me deep inside

Hear your softly crashing roar

Relentless pounding on a timeless shore

Here I’m searching for the door

Into the dreams of nevermore

Ocean Missed

Drifty dreamy seas of silk

Shrouded in dark warm mist

Ocean mother of us all

There’s something that I’ve missed

Was it the time?

Or maybe when…

Wait a minute

I’ll start again

There’s something that I’ve missed

O mother ocean of us all

Something that I’ve missed I think

I really can’t recall

The Bench

Sitting on my boardwalk bench

The one I used to use

When ears ago bandannad

I sat and played the blues

Years ago bandannad

With carefree summer soul

Come back to me please

I’m not ready to grow old

And all the dreams have faded

And crumbled into rust

Too young for older women

Too old for teenage lust

Here to meet and smile

Then to go away

Maybe we can meet again

Another happy day

Until then O lady fair

Carry with your grace

My fond and friendly memories

Now gone without a trace

Yet you leave without a word

Or even a goodbye

With every step you walk away

One more tear I cry

Untitled2

As this new summer drifts in on long, lazy April afternoons

It carries on its tides, my memories of you.

For I still hold my candle

In the face of the raging sea

Holding a candle in the window

Hoping you’ll come back to me

The dreams are growing faded now

And the rusty memories

No longer shine as brightly

As our summer by the sea

In you I saw a girl

That four seasons I could spend

Sharing each one’s beauty

Then sharing them again

I see you now in springtime

In shrouded forests green

Deep cool eyes like water

Smiling things not seen

Then we drift to summer

As you bounce along the beach

Your breezy ocean spirit

Never out of reach

Calm nights on the bayside

Laughing, smiling, summer’s child plays in tumbling tides

And golden Fall with richredbrowns

That shimmer in the sun

Wind whispers to me in the leaves

And reminds me of the one for all seasons

To face the winter’s icy wind

You I would hold close

To cuddle warm and hold you

The one I love the most.
