Tang Laiwei began training in Wushu at the age of seven and was the youngest member of the Beijing Wushu Team when it was formed in 1974. As a member of the Beijing Wushu Team, he won almost thirty medals, including ten gold!! He was also awarded the Wu Ying, the highest award in Wushu.
As part of the Beijing Team, Tang Laiwei toured the United States in 1974 and 1980 and to Africa, Japan, Europe and Australia.
He has also worked in several films, including "Martial Arts of Shaolin" the third of the famous Shaolin Temple films.
After retiring from competition Tang Laiwei immigrated to Australia in 1988, where he continues to teach the Wushu heritage. He was also teacher of Jackie Chan Stunt Team member Brad Allen, who starred opposite Jackie in "Gorgeous". |
