My best friend, Nikki, and I headed to Grand Rapids (for the first time!) to catch the Dashboard Confessional show. We waited in line FOREVER, but did catch a glimpse of Chris (Mr. Confessional, himself) as we were finally on our way in. What was odd was that it seemed like we were the only ones in line who recognized him. Strange.
Anyway, there were two opening bands, Seville (who put on a great show) and Brand New (who I dug, except that they were hard to listen to while fending off the moron slam dancers). Dashboard's set was really great. He played a bunch of songs of "The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most," as well as a few older songs, to weed out the "MTV Teeny Boppers). He was very energetic and we were lucky to be pretty close to the stage.
After the show, we hung out to get autographs. We talked to the bassist from the band who was nice enough to share his Tostitos with us :) Chris came out after about a half hour and was really sweet to all the fans. He signed autographs, gave hugs and took pictures, even though we could tell he was (understandably) very tired. He signed autographs for both of us (mine in my journal, with a groovy drawing) and on Nikki's new poster, and he took a very cute picture with the two of us. He was very patient with all of us, and that always makes the experiencet even better. |
