Just Brakes |
Just Brakes is a brake repair chain of stores that has been heavily advertising in the Denver area for at least a year now (since at least 1999). They have a "deal" going where they'll do normal repairs on regular or metallic disc brakes for $99.98. My Mustang's brakes were making some horrendous noises and the car would shudder when I'd use them so I took the car to Just Brakes to have them do their magic. Their magic turned out to be a scam. Their mechanic called me up to tell me that the brakes needed more than just the normal repairs, that the rotors were ground down too much and had to be replaced, and the calipers needed to be fixed, too. The total bill was over $400 - a far cry from the $100 I was expecting. I told him I couldn't afford that and asked him to do just the minimum to get my car drivable. He replaced the brake pads and a return spring and the bill was a bit over $100. I was suspicious of what the mechanic told me and decided to have a third party verify what he was telling me. It just so happened that Brakes Plus had it's own special going - free inspection of your brakes if you mentioned their ad mascot, "Beepy". I brought my car in and they checked it. They asked if I was aware that the brake pads were new - I told them I knew this and I was verifying the work of Just Brakes. They advised me there was nothing wrong with my brakes. I took my car back to Just Brakes and spoke to the manager. He took me into the shop and measured the rotors and discovered that the mechanic was wrong. We didn't even bother with the calipers. He told me to bring in the car and they'd complete the work they should've done in the first place at no charge. I never took the car back because I didn't trust them. I talked to a couple that was sitting in the store while I was there. They had been quoted a large sum for the work and I warned them what happened to me. I suggest you stay away from Just Brakes! |
