Heaven, Hell and Angels Do I believe in Heaven and Hell? Not in the sense that some people do. I think the hell a soul experiences is derived from turning it's back on the creator and trying to harm or misguide other souls. I believe there are souls that have turned to the ways of evil, having become so lost they think they cannot find the way back to the light, and continue to follow the path of darkness. Also, I find the concept of "Heaven and Hell" as presented in the book/movie "What Dreams May Come" quite a fascinating idea. The concept is that there is only one place that the soul goes to between lives. There you can look like anything or anyone and you can manipulate the world around you to suit your needs and desires. The less enlightened you are the less control you have. For those who are foundering in a moral morass they aren't even usually aware that these abilities are available to them so wrapped up have they become in the misery of the life they just lived. Most don't even think they're dead. They (and I mean the soul) continue to act out their lives because of feelings of guilt, remorse, etc. and are trapped by these memories, dooming themselves to relive the bad parts of their lives, torturing and punishing themselves and even others in an insane attempt to pay for what they feel they did wrong. Those who are enlightened congregate in a separate "area" (for lack of a non-spatial term) and work individually and together to promote the growth of everyone there. Those with the strength make forays into the "dead" areas where the souls that have put themselves into a state of pennance reside and try to raise them up from this state, give them awareness, so they can move on to a better state of existence. The areas for those in self-pennance vary from drab, boring places full of those in denial of their deaths to horrifying seas of souls tearing and clawing at each other like crabs in a pot, to places where these souls hunt out anyone who has an enlightened soul so they can suck the "nectar of enlightenment" from them, and many other things. It is a chilling vision. Many people "pooh-pooh'd" the movie "Dogma" but I think that's an excellent example of a soul turning from the creator and how that soul (played by Ben Affleck) created it's own private hell and then swayed other souls to join it in it's misery. I certainly laugh at the typical view of Heaven being a cloudy place full of winged angels who strum on harps and live in eternal bliss. Skeptics point out that this must be a pretty boring existence and while I can see their point I think they are overlooking the rapture a soul would experience being in the presence of our creator. It would be a blissful and unifying experience unlike any other. Despite this what I mentioned above is more fitting with what I believe than the traditional Heaven/Hell of the Christians, many polytheistic beliefs, and other religions. Do I believe in angels? Yes but, again, they are not as you might think of them. Many people think of angels as creatures created prior to us "humans", superior to us in almost any respect, with wings and angelic duties to perform on the creator's behalf. I think of angels as souls, just like ourselves, who have learned the lessons and passed the tests of this existence and, in doing so, have become boddhisattva or "enlightened ones". Having done so they move on to the next phase of a soul's development and so on and so forth until they learn everything the creator has set before them. Do souls become angels before or after this ultimate enlightenment? I'm not sure but if I had to guess I'd say before. Why? Now perhaps I'm already out on a limb and I'm stepping onto the thinnest, tiniest branch but my thought is that the ultimate enlightenment causes us to become one with the creator in a perfect harmony and unity and union. Sounds pretty unbelievable, doesn't it? But can you think of a better way to experience rapture? Sex, drugs and chocolate certainly wouldn't hold a candle to it! 9^) I also believe that the closer a soul gets to the creator via these lessons the more "angelic" the soul becomes and the more they perform duties for the creator. It is not a job for these souls - it is an avocation, something they love to do, and they do it with love and devotion. What can make a soul feel better AND grow more than helping other souls? Nothing that I can think of save our creator giving them enlightenment and love. |
