Abandoned Greco-Calabro Villages

Roghudi

Landslide dangers forced the evacuation of Roghudi in the 1970s but it remains an enchanted place for hikers.

Using traditional homemade instruments, some young musicians seek to keep Greek music alive.

Roghudi is sometimes host to Greek cultural events such as this evening concert.

Pentedatillo

Visible from the highway along the Ionic coast Pentedattilo captures the imaginations of passing travelers.  From the Greek Pentedàktylos, meaning five fingers, the town took its name from the five formations of sandstone that tower over it.  Abandoned in the 50s it is still inspires local legends and draws the occasional curious traveler or picnicking Italian.
