Men's headwear during the later part of the 18th century

An extant example of a tri-cornered hat, 1775

Below is an example of a re-created Light Infantry Helmet. No known extant examples  of light infantry helmets remain for this regiment, so it is fashioned after other light infantry helmets of the time and with whatever research was gathered.  The helmet is made of dyed leather, sewn front to back through the crown.  A visor is added.  The visor is painted in contrasting white.   The crown's seam at the top is covered with a buck tail.  This Pennsylvania regiment uses buck tails because deer are so prevalent in the state.  The helmet is finished with a red linen turban and a black cockade. Helmet made by Sgt, Dave Clugh, 3rd PA Light Infantry Company.
