Junior Varsity Choir Block Requirements

Be a member of the Choir for 3 school quarters and participate in all events and concerts during that time (or have medical or family excuse accepted by Music Director in a timely fashion as Director’s policy dictates), plus any four of the following options:

  1. Become a Tri-M member.
  2. Contribute a total of 12 hours of fund-raising or concert preparation work, including but not limited to: Fun Company work, Jazz Dinner Dance committees (set-up, serving, clean-up), car washes, Winter/Pops/Attendance Area/Final concerts (committees such as set up, program, serving, clean-up, etc.) and Graduation (music set-up).
  3. Participate (stay throughout, listen and contribute ideas if appropriate) at three BPO meetings.
  4. Do 2 ensemble or solo performances at concerts or festivals (include dates of performances).
  5. Take part in an outside musical group (such as church choir, musical play, etc.). (Can count more than one. Provide documentation.)
  6. Do an artistic project not used for class. (Such as a song or musical composition or visual project related to music).
  7. Attend a musical performance and write a 250-word summary OR write a 300-word essay on: (a) the history of an instrument, (b) a famous musical figure, or (c) what music means to you.
  8. Serve as student leader such as Section Leader for a semester.
  9. Serve as music librarian for 12 hours (sorting, filing, handing out, & collecting music, etc.).
  10. Serve as Tri-M officer for a school year.
  11. Participate in creating and teaching the choreography for a choral piece for a concert or performance.
  12. Provide 15 class periods of piano accompaniment for choral rehearsal. (Four 10-minute warm-ups equal one class period of piano accompaniment.)
  13. Perform an activity not listed here that demonstrates musical excellence or service to the Choir. (The Block Applications committee will decide whether it should count.)

Record Keeping: Applicants will be responsible for keeping accurate records of their service hours, participation, etc. These records may be checked against BPO or instructor logs at the discretion of the committee processing the block applications, which will be formed by the Music Director and the BPO.
