I DO
Robert H. Gilbert, Jr.
October 22, 2003
When we said,” I DO”, I didn’t ask, “How Long”.
When you said, “I Love You”, I said, “Is it true?”
When you asked for a ring, I asked, “Do we need one?”

“What about a house“, you asked.  I said, “How about a tent”.
Why buy, when you can rent.
I asked for a dog, you got a cat.

This is all crazy, with this and that.

You wanted a family, you got me.
You wanted a car, I got a boat.
You wanted money to spend, so I got you a job.
You wanted a Valentine, I bought you some red paper.
You wanted a Rose, I bought a fake one.
You wanted a hat, I got you some straw

You wanted my Heart, and I said, “Not Likely”.
But 20 + years later, you did steal my heart
All these years we were never apart
When we said “I DO”, it was for good
Yesterday, today, and forever more.

P.S.  too cheap to buy a ring, too cheap to buy a house
too cheap to buy a valentine, too cheap to buy a rose
too cheap to buy you a hat.
Spent all my money on you, So now I got to get a job.
