The Lady of All Ladies
Robert H. Gilbert, Jr.
June 20, 1999
I have traveled many miles throughout this great country of ours.
From the Golden Gate bridge in California to the Washington Monument in D.C. ,
from the Everglades of Florida to the timberlands of Oregon.
From the land of 10,000 lakes to the Gulf Coast of Houston, from Long Island to the
     Painted Desert of Arizona.
I’ve seen  ice crystals on trees by Lake Erie.
I’ve seen the autumn colors in the Blue Ridge mountains.
From the Shenandoah Valley to Death valley.
All the beauty that God made, we will never see it all in our life time.
From the Petrified Forest in New Mexico to the cotton fields of Alabama.
From the wheat fields of Kansas to the dairy farms in Wisconsin, from the peach
trees of Georgia to the cornfields of Illinois.
From the potato state of Idaho down to the Salt lake of Utah, from the snow
covered Rockies of Denver to the Great Smokey Mountains  of Tennessee.
All this beauty I will never forget.
Today however, I am kneeling in front of the most beautiful site in this country.
I looked up at her eyes and I could the stains from tears that she has cried as they fell
     upon her gown.
Tears she has cried for Americans killing Americans, and for those who gave their lives
     for her.
There are stab wounds in her sides. These wounds are from others who have slandered
     our country.
Each time harsh words are spoken against us, she has a new scar.
Yet, through her tears and stab wounds she still smiles.
She holds a bright light in her hand to show others the way.
How many have seen her is an unending number.
She wears a crown to show she is the Lady of freedom.
She has her arms open to welcome everyone.
She doesn’t love just one, she loves all who may come.
Some may leave and others may stay, but all will remember this Great Lady.
I said a prayer to her and tears filled my eyes.

As I started to walk away a drop of rain fell upon me.
I looked up toward the sky, not a cloud anywhere.
I looked up at her again and I could see wetness in her eyes and I seen her smile.
I said, “Yes my Lady, I would gladly serve you once again.
“MY LADY, THE STATUE OF LIBERTY”.
