My Best Friend
Robert H. Gilbert, Jr.
15 November, 1996
Do you remember your best friend?  I do.
As I recall, I had several male friends and a couple of girl friends.
We grew up together in a one horse town, as the saying goes.
Most of us lived on the same street, went to the same school, even the same
     church.
If one of us got into trouble at school, our parents would find out somehow.
Usually, by one of the friend’s telling their parents who would call the other parent and tell
     them.
     What a friend they were.
We shared a lot of good times, as well as sad times .
Some friends married each other, others married someone out of town and moved away.
How many are still there, I’m not sure.
I got married to a beautiful woman, and in several years we had 2 lovely girls.
We had a nice home in the country, outside the one horse town.
My wife and I both have a professional job.
    She’s a Doctor and I am a lawyer.
If she got sued, she had free advice, If myself or one of the girls got sick, we had a live in
Dr. to take care of us.

As years went bye, the pressure of my job started getting me down.

My clients left and went to another counselor,  I just couldn’t make myself go to work.
    Reasons I can’t explain.
We had saved some money for hard times, and I did not know when the hard began until
    all the money was gone.
Now the hard times were here.
I just did not care anymore.
