I walked out of the room, shook my head at his daughter and walked down the hall with my head bowed low. Some years later, I was again sitting in my recliner. I suddenly recalled what my friend had told me about the card. I jumped up and began to look in every drawer of the house trying to find the card. I looked in the kitchen cabinets, the bath room drawers, the bedroom dresser drawers, the chest of drawers. No Card!! Then I looked in all the pockets of our clothing. Still No Card!! |
Frustrated, I went back to my recliner and tried to remember where I had put it. After 10 years. I began looking around the room, and my eyes fell upon the family bible lying on the coffee table. I wonder! |
So, I got up and walked over and opened the bible. The Card!!! I grabbed it and held on to it like it was a gold bar. I sat back down in my recliner and looked at the card. I turned the card over, blank. I turned the card back over, just a few words that said, “ YOU ARE INVITED TO ATTEND A MEETING”. No date, no time., no signature. Surely, if I had missed an important meeting somewhere, somebody would have called. After 10 years. |
I leaned my head back and closed my eyes. I felt a breeze of cold air cross my face. I opened my eyes, but no doors or windows were open. Again, I closed my eyes. Another breeze. Then I heard a voice that at first I did not recognize, But, as the voice kept talking, I knew the voice to be that of my best friend. As he kept repeating the words, I finally made out what he was saying. |
There’s a meeting taking place by the river You have the invitation to attend The crowd’s gathering around the guest speaker He’s the one with the Nail Scared Hands Yes, there’s a meeting taking place by the river It is standing room only, that I can see I’m waiting and watching for your coming I have a place saved for you, next to me Oh, there’s a Great meeting taking place by the river So, we won’t cross Jordan alone, You have the invitation for the meeting I hope that you are ready to go Yes, I just hope that you are ready to go. |
