GOLDEN GLOBE WINNER TONY SHALHOUB RETURNS AS
AMERICA'S FAVORITE OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DETECTIVE
IN USA NETWORK'S HIT SERIES MONK

SECOND SEASON PREMIERES FRIDAY, JUNE 20 AT 10:00 PM ET/PT
New York, NY - May 21, 2003 - Monk, the critically acclaimed original series starring Golden Globe winner Tony Shalhoub, returns to USA Network for its second season on Friday, June 20 at 10:00 PM ET/PT. Monk's first season currently stands as the highest rated original scripted series in the history of basic cable.

Tony Shalhoub (
The Man Who Wasn't There, Galaxy Quest, Men in Black) stars as the illustrious Adrian Monk... a brilliant detective who happens to have obsessive-compulsive disorder. Monk's psychological disorder costs him his position as a legendary homicide detective on the San Francisco police force. Due to the tragic unsolved murder of his wife, Monk has developed an abnormal fear of germs, heights, crowds and virtually everything else, which provides an unusual challenge to solving crimes... not to mention his day-to-day existence.

Bitty Schram (
A League of Their Own) co-stars as Monk's nurse Sharona, who is an unlikely "Dr. Watson" to his "Sherlock Holmes." Ted Levine (Heat, Moby Dick) plays Captain Stottlemeyer, Monk's former Captain - a highly decorated detective who will never be as good as the infamous Monk... and it drives him crazy. Jason Gray-Stanford (A Beautiful Mind, Taken) plays Lieutenant Disher, who relishes every opportunity to bolster the ego and reputation of Stottlemeyer, his commanding officer.

This season, Monk continues to investigate baffling, seemingly impossible crimes including: the murder of the world's oldest man, a victim who apparently drowned in mid-air while parachuting, and a string of murders committed by a man in a coma. Monk manages to solve these crimes, and does so without running out of his precious moist towellettes...

In the premiere episode, "Mr. Monk Goes Back to School," Monk takes a job as a substitute high school teacher to determine whether a teacher's fall from a clock tower was really a suicide, or a lesson in murder. Andrew McCarthy (
The Joy Luck Club, Mulholland Falls) guest stars in the premiere episode.

Monk is executive produced by David Hoberman (Bringing Down the House, The Negotiator, George of the Jungle), Andy Breckman (Saturday Night Live, Late Night with David Letterman, Rat Race) and Tony Shalhoub. Randy Zisk (Gideon's Crossing, NYPD Blue) serves as co-executive producer, Fern Field (Kane & Abel, Heartsounds) as supervising producer, and Phillip M. Goldfarb (Roswell, Popular) as producer. Monk is produced by Mandeville Films, Inc. in association with Touchstone Television.
