THE STAG IS RUNNING...

!RHETT FOR VP!

   (Because he's about RESPONSIVE RESPONSIBILITY)

Why am I running for ASCMC Vice President?

Three Words:  Openness, Responsibility, YOU

First, I have four questions for you:

2) Do you know what happened in the last
    Student Senate meeting?

1) Do you know when and where the
    Student Senate meetings are held?

3) Do you know when and where the
ASCMC Executive Board meetings are held?

4) Do you know what happened in the last
    ASCMC Executive Board meeting?

If you are like the vast majority of students here at CMC, you most likely are not sure about the answer to any of the above questions.  If you have actively sought to be involved in student government, you may know the answer to the first question.  If you knew the answer the the first question and attended last weeks Senate meeting, you are in an informed elite.  And if you know the answer to either of the last two questions, you are probably on the Executive Board.

     So, what's my point?

I'm getting at the fact that our student government doesn't take the time to inform us about what they are doing.  Granted, some hold office hours.  But ASCMC administrations have largely required the students to take the initiative in finding out about what is going on.

As Vice President I will make information regarding the proceedings of both the Student Senate and the Executive Board readily available to you.  I will write a weekly column for claremontmckenna.com and I will publish a column in each issue of the Forum that tells you what is going on in the Student Senate and the Executive Board meetings.

I will inform you about important issues that affect your life.  I will inform you about issues such as
ASCMC budget restructuring to pay for approximately $40,000 that has been overspent by organizations on campus (a topic at the Feb. 14th Senate meeting).  I will inform you about such issues as a hike in your student body fees that was proposed by the Executive Board (a topic that is scheduled for debate in the Feb. 21 Senate meeting).

     Simply, I'm about
opennessI believe that you should know about the issues that affect CMC.  I believe that the student government should be held responsible for their actions.  I believe that you should have access to information about ASCMC proceedings so you can make decisions for yourself and so that you can affect what your student government does.

Like I said, for me, it all comes down to OPENNESS, RESPONSIBILITY, and YOU.
