Summary: Mulder and Scully try to convince themselves that
they're only meant to be just friends. Needless to say it
doesn't work.

This is just a little thing I came up with while watching
Absolutely Fabulous. It's a real short one, and I apologize
in advance if it sounds like something someone else wrote.
It's a common theme and I don't want to be ripping someone off.

Flames sent for the cheesiness of this fic will be used to

     "It wouldn't work out."

     "You're right, it wouldn't."

Mulder and Scully sat on Mulder's couch, playing a
little game called denial. Actually it was their way
of proving to each other that they were only supposed
to be just friends.

Scully leaned her head on the back of the couch.
"I mean, we work well together, and we're best friends..."

Mulder took up the gauntlet. "And if after we were
involved we got into a fight, it would wreck the working
relationship."

"And I'm sure the rumor mill would have a field day
with that one," Scully smirked.

Mulder came up with another thought to convince
himself that they were to be just friends. "Besides,
no offence, but you're not really my type anyway."

"None taken. I know you prefer the tall, leggy
brunette types," Scully said, unconsciously trying to
convince him and herself back to the best friend thing.
"You're not really my type either. Most have been a
little shorter. I didn't always have to wear three
inch heels around them."

Mulder nodded with conviction. Now they were playing
the list all the little faults of the other game. "Yeah,
you're too organized for my tastes. I need a girl who's
a little looser.

Scully raised an eyebrow. "Funny you should bring
that up because you're such a slob," she smirked.

He ran a hand through his hair. "I'm not a slob,
I just have my own system of organization."

Scully's turn. "And I'm not trying to be rude here,
but some of your ideas are so outrageous it's annoying
at times."

Mulder grimaced. "Some of my outrageous ideas have
turned out to be right."

"I know. I don't mean the conspiracy things, but that
you said that the reason your cabinet doors kept coming open
was because there was a ghost in them!"

Mulder smirked back at her. "At least it's not as
mundane as what you would have said."

"I would have said that the latch that holds the door
in place is faulty," Scully said back, with an indignant
look on her face.

"This is why it wouldn't work out," Mulder said
quietly. "We're totally different."

"I guess that's what we've been trying to say all
along," Scully said just as quietly.

     Then, the inevitable happened.

They both flew at each other with something between a
flying tackle and a mad dash to reach a goal, and they
kissed passionately. After a while Scully said "Wasn't
this what we were trying to prevent?"

Mulder replied, kissing her neck in the meantime.
"I think we were just trying to convince ourselves that
we're not right for each other."

"We are though." Scully pulled Mulder to look him
in the eyes. "We are different, but that's what makes
us individuals. We also are very similar, we just
didn't bother to look for them. We both believe in
honesty, and doing the right thing whatever the
consequences..."

"And trust," they finished together. Mulder
laughed. "And in the end it creates a perfect balance."

Scully looked into his eyes and leaned in to kiss
him. "We're just two halves of a whole."

As the kissed got deeper, Mulder pulled back and
looked into Scully's eyes once more, now not afraid of
the love he would see reflected in them. "Where you
said what we both believed in, Scully, I think you
forgot one."

"What?" Scully asked with a puzzled look on her
face. Mulder reached out and smoothed the worry lines
from her forehead.

"I think you forgot a 'true love' in there somewhere."

Scully shrugged, taking his face into her hands and
planting light kisses over it. "Trust, love, same thing,"
she said.

Mulder grinned widely. "I've been saying that for
years,"

Scully arched an eyebrow. "Prove it," she said,
with a smile on her face.

     And he did :).

The End!!!
(And they all lived happily ever after :)

See, just a short little thing I whipped up in a
few hours. It's those damn sudden bursts of inspiration
that brings these on.

Thanks for reading!
