Title: Fais me Sourire-Don't Want To Miss A Thing
Author: Elizabeth L. Iacono
Rating: General. Safe and Sweet
Category: Story Romance
Keywords: Mulder/Scully Romance
Spoilers: The End, X-Files: Fight the Future
Summary: Mulder watches Scully sleep.

This is turning into a series for some unknown reason. The
stories in this series will all have a girl named Vera (who is
my creation, well, sort of) and will have a song in it. Basically,
it's Mulder and Scully's lives set to music.

Oh, yeah, here let's just say the movie took place in late May,
right after the season finale. It works better for the story.
And Mulder is still not colorblind.

Disclaimer: Let's keep this short and sweet. NOT MINE
Song is Aerosmith's (Betcha that told you what song it is:P)
Feedback: Oh, please, please. The addy is RhiaRamsay@aol.com

Don't Want To Miss A Thing
Elizabeth L. Iacono

     May, 1999

Mulder woke up and looked around the room. It was still
dark. That was no surprise. Lately, the most amount of sleep
he'd get for a stretch of time was an hour. Not that it bothered
him. In fact, he looked forward to it.

For a moment, Mulder sat and reflected on the past year. God,
so much had changed since last May. The X-Files had been shut
down, he'd almost lost Scully again, and Diana Fowley had decided
to make herself a permanent fixture at the D.C. bureau. He
shuddered at that last one.

It had also been since last May that he and Scully had been
together. While he was on the ice in Antarctica, he vowed to
tell Scully exactly how he felt. He'd told her part of it in the
hallway, but that damn bee...

He glanced down at the thin gold band on his left ring
finger. The wedding was very hurried, thrown together at the last
minute, but neither one of them minded. Scully had said the
wedding night that when they got involved that she knew it would
probably be last relationship she'd ever have. Not that she meant
that in a bad way, but in the best way possible. Still, the
wedding was a little rushed for both their tastes.

Mulder glanced over to where Scully was sleeping peacefully
beside him. Even wearing his favorite beat up old Knicks T-shirt
as a nightshirt, (which he had gladly given to her) she was the
most incredible thing he'd ever seen. Scully was lying on her
back, smiling at something she was dreaming about.

Yep, he had no regrets as to what got him to this point.

Mulder thought of a song that he'd heard on the radio earlier
that day on the way home from work. It was an Aerosmith song,
but highly unlike any of the others he'd heard over the years.
Even Scully had liked it. He'd bought her the C.D. for Christmas
and she played it over and over. He didn't mind. At that time,
and still, he was willing to do anything to make her happy. His
excellent memory replayed the song perfectly in his mind.

     I could stay awake
     Just to hear you breathing
     Watch you smile
     While you are sleeping
While you're far away and dreaming
     I could spend my life
     In this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment
     Forever
Well, every moment spent with you
     Is a moment I treasure

     Don't wanna close my eyes
     I don't wanna fall asleep
     Cause I'd miss you babe
     And I don't wanna miss a thing
Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream would never do
     I'd still miss you babe
     And I don't wanna miss a thing

     Lying close to you
     Hearing your heart beating
And I'm wondering what you're dreaming
Wondering if it's me you're seeing
     Then I kiss your eyes
     And thank God we're together
I just wanna stay with you
In this moment forever, forever, and ever and I

I don't wanna close my eyes
     I don't wanna fall asleep
     Cause I'd miss you babe
     And I don't wanna miss a thing
Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream would never do
     I'd still miss you babe
     And I don't wanna miss a thing

And I don't wanna miss one smile
I don't wanna miss one kiss
I just wanna be with you
     Right here with you
     Just like this
And I just wanna hold you close
I feel your heart so close to mine
And just stay here in this moment
For all the rest of time

     Don't wanna close my eyes
     Don't wanna fall asleep
     Cause I'd miss you babe
     And I don't wanna miss a thing
Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do
     I'd still miss you babe
     And I don't wanna miss a thing

Mulder finished the song in his head and looked at Scully
again. This time, she was staring back at him.

"Hey," he said gently. "You've still got about five
minutes. You're early."

Scully rolled over and put her head on Mulder's chest.
"Oh, well, I'll just wait. Y'know you're getting good at this
Mulder (she was still getting used to calling him Fox) you've
predicted the times to within five minutes."

"I have to be so I know when to wake you. Ow!" he yelped
softly from her elbow digging into his chest.

Scully giggled. "Well, I predict that this time will be
early." True to form, at that moment a piercing wail cut through
the air. Scully looked up at Mulder and smiled. "Told you.
Early. It's your turn."

Mulder slid out of bed and went over to the crib by the
window. He looked at the screaming baby with dark hair and
smiled. He picked her up. "Hey little Vera, it's time for an
early morning feeding," he said and brought her over to the bed
where Scully was waiting. He handed her the baby and she smiled
that sweet smile that was so common on her face since the baby
was born two months ago.

"Hi, there, angel," Scully said softly and then turned to
Mulder. "Could you get me her bottle please?"

"Anything." Mulder went into the kitchen and got one of
the ever ready bottles out of the fridge. Vera Katheryne Mulder
was the reason for everything. God, she was their little miracle.
He could clearly recall the day Scully had told him she was
pregnant. She'd just thought it was the flu, and she said she'd
nearly passed out when the doctor told her. Her guess was that
they must have missed one of the eggs. Anyway, the wedding was
rushed, and Mrs. Scully was loving every minute of it. As
expected, Bill Scully Jr. was staunchly against the whole thing,
but he got his dues when Scully herself had decked him one at the
wedding party after. So what if she was two months pregnant?

And then when Vera had decided to come two months early in
March, well, then it was Mulder's turn to almost pass out. But
he wouldn't trade those moments for anything. He took the bottle
out of the microwave and tested it on his wrist. Scully was
right when she said he was getting better at this. He'd got the
temperature right on the first try.

Mulder walked back into the bedroom and stopped at the
doorway. He couldn't believe how beautiful Scully looked just
sitting there holding the baby. It just looked so right. She
looked up at him and smiled. "Come on Mulder, she's hungry."

He quickly crossed to the bed and sat down next to Scully.
Mulder handed her the bottle and she put it in Vera's mouth. Vera
sucked on the bottle as if her life depended on it. Mulder looked
at Scully and kissed her gently on the lips.

Mulder looked down at Vera again. The words from the song
ran through his head again.

I don't wanna miss one smile
I don't wanna miss one kiss

They're right he thought as he helped Scully feed Vera.
I don't wanna miss a thing.

I told you it was sweet and sappy. But I love the song and I felt
it just fit this possible (I wish) future scene in their lives.

"Ah, true love, it's the
greatest thing in the
world."

something like that, what
ever it was it fit.)
