Title: Hold You In My Arms Author: Elizabeth L. Iacono Rating: PG Category: Vignette, Romance Keywords: Mulder/Scully Romance Spoilers: Triangle Summary: A continuation of the last scene of 'Triangle'. Scully returns Mulder's feelings 'Triangle' was just screaming for a post ep story. Actually this is my first post ep so it's probably really corny. But I just felt something was missing from the end, so I added a little bit on. Feedback: Pleeeeze? e-mail me at RhiaRamsay@aol.com Disclaimer: Oy, this again. Mulder, Scully, Skinner, Frohike, Langly, and Byers belong to CC, 1013, and Fox. But the idea behind this story is mine!...inspired by 'Triangle'. Something's not right here. Hold You In My Arms Elizabeth L. Iacono "Oh, brother," I said and walked out of the hospital room. But I didn't get that far. As soon as I got out of there I collapsed against the wall right outside it. Luckily the Gunmen or Skinner weren't there to see that. Three simple words shook me to the core. Special Agent Dana Scully, who has faced everything from Flukemen to vampires pretending to be vampires, is sent into near shock by three little words. Fox Mulder told me 'I love you.' Words I have been waiting to hear from him for...God knows how long, and I say 'Oh, brother' and walk out of there. What is wrong with me? Maybe I'm scared of it, of what happens next. There were so many times I have been so ready to tell him, after I came back from my abduction, after the Cancer, and yet every time I find some excuse to weasel myself out of actually telling him. And he beats me to it. I think he was going to in the hallway, before Antarctica. He'd spilled his heart out to me, and it felt good to know that I made that much of an impact on his life. Maybe I'm being vain about this, but he's the most important person in my life, whether he knows it or not. I know for sure he was going to kiss me in that hallway, and I had every intention of enjoying it. Then-damn bee. At that moment Frohike walked up to me. "Scully?" he asked. I rolled my head to face him and opened my eyes. "Yeah?" He looked concerned about something. "Are you okay?" I grinned internally. If I told him what was really bothering me he'd probably die of a heart attack. I don't want to kill him. Despite all his lecherous tendencies he really is a good guy at heart and a good friend. "Just tired." Frohike looked towards the door that closed off Mulder's room. "I know. It's amazing what he gets into. Even more amazing that he gets out of them alive." I looked at Frohike. Something he'd said just hit me with the force of a sack of flour. "Yeah. Are you going anywhere near the cafeteria?" "Actually I was just going to get some coffee. Do you want any?" he asked. I smiled at him. "Yeah, thanks." "No problem," he said, and walked off down the hallway. 'Even more amazing that he gets out alive...' The words rang out in ears. We were lucky to find him alive. This time. God knows it would be impossible to stop him from doing this again, but the next time he does this, he may not make it back or we won't be able to find him. 'That's it,' I said to myself, 'I'll tell him NOW.' But something put a pause in my steps. Lingering traces of nervousness, I guessed. So I made a deal with myself. If he's awake, pretend I'm checking up on him and not say a word, but if he's asleep, I could just whisper it to him and no one will be the wiser. Before nervousness could kick in again, I got up off the wall and turned back to the door separating me from Mulder. I opened up, and, thank God, he was sleeping like a baby. Did I ever say how cute Mulder looks while he's sleeping? He's like a little boy without a care in the world. God, I wish that were true. I walked over to the bed as quietly as possible, and though my shoe squeaked once on the linoleum floor, he didn't stir. I reached the bed and stared at him, his face so much younger in sleep. I started running my fingers through his hair, liking the feel of it against my hand. I did like it better longer, but we're normal agents now, and Mulder's got to have his hair cut to bureau standards. "I'm sorry," I said softly, still running my hand through his hair. "I shouldn't have dismissed you like that. I love you too. I-I just wanted you to know that." I turned around and began to walk out, when I saw something out of the corner of my eye. Slowly, I turned back to the bed, trying to disturb the air around it as little as possible. Mulder's still in the same position, but now, he's got this shit-eating grin on his face. He was awake. I'm gonna kill the rat, I thought. Kill him or kiss him. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX They tell me to go to sleep. So sue me, it's a little bit hard. They don't even have a TV in here to actually help me. I really did mean it when I told Scully I loved her, and I hope she knows that. I know she thought I was delirious, they all did. They thought that Fox Mulder had put in his appearance in the 1990's version on the Wizard of Oz. Well, it did happen. I've got the fist mark on my face to prove it. At least I've got one memento from my trip. I shut my eyes when I heard the door open. I didn't need another nurse yelling at me that I needed to get some rest. No shit, you think I don't know that? I feel like hell already. I heard the person approach the bed. I didn't know who it was until I felt a hand working its way through my hair. It was Scully. Don't ask me how I knew it was her, I just did. Then she began to speak to me. "I'm sorry," she said, as quiet as anything. "I shouldn't have dismissed you like that. I love you too. I-I just wanted you to know that." Oh my God. She actually said that to me. Well, I guess I suspected this all along. I took a major chance saying that to her tonight. I heard her turn away and I began to smile through my fake sleep. I was smiling until I felt Scully's hand on my arm with her nails digging in to my skin. Busted. I opened my eyes to find Scully glaring at me, not with the concern she had before but with something that was a cross between anger and...something else I couldn't identify. "Don't even try and tell me you were just sleeping, Mulder," she said slowly. I sat up slowly, trying to prevent the blood rushing to my head. Scully grasped my arm, softer this time, to steady me. This time, she left her hand there. "I meant what I said before," I said, taking the lead. If we were going to get this thing out in the open I was going to start it. Scully rubbed her hand up my arm. "I know," she said. "I did too," she said, quieter. I smiled, and ran a hand through her hair, and pulled her closer. We were at eye level like this, so neither one of us would get a neckache looking up or down. "Why did you run?" I asked. To my surprise, Scully blushed, and she turned her eyes toward the floor. I gently pulled her head back up to look me with the hand still running through her hair. "I guess I was a little scared," she whispered. "For what I felt...or if it was just the medicine talking..." she trailed off. I pulled her closer and rested my forehead against hers. The bed rail was an uncomfortable barrier between us, but before I could do anything Scully pushed the rail down and locked her arms tightly around my neck. "I was scared too. On the ship-" I heard Scully lightly laugh by my ear. "Okay, ship, dream, whatever it was, I was so scared that I wouldn't see you again, that I wouldn't be able to tell you I loved you, or hold you in my arms like this." I heard her laugh again. "I go through the same thing every time you ditch me." I ran my hand through her hair again. I decided to take some action. This time, though, I wouldn't have to worry about Scully's right hook. So, I leaned in and kissed her, and she kissed me back. Those had to have been the best five minutes in my life. Finally I pulled back when I felt the urge to yawn. Scully, looked at me, concerned. "Mulder, you really should get some rest." "Yeah," I mumbled, then got an idea. I shifted over on the bed and pulled Scully by the hand closer. "What are you doing?" she asked, sounding a little worried. "Just lay down with me." She still looked a little nervous, so I quickly placated her. "I just want to have you here with me. I promise I won't hit on you while you're sleeping, actually I don't think I'll be able to do anything but sleep. so please?" I pouted. Scully smiled and shook her head. "Okay. But if only to get you to get some rest." She climbed upon the bed next to me, and settled down into my arms. Within minutes we were both asleep. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Frohike walked back to Mulder's room carrying two cups of coffee. He'd thought Scully was really drained by this latest escapade. She was always drained after a game of hunting down Mulder. When he got to the chair outside the room, near where Scully was propped up against before, she wasn't there. Frohike had a feeling that she was checking up on Mulder. He put the cups down on the chair and quietly opened the door. He didn't expect to see Scully standing by the bed, kissing Mulder who should have been trying to get some rest. He smirked to himself and thought that they were both looking better than they had the last time he'd seen them. Frohike wasn't depressed over the thought of seeing them together. The first time Mulder had introduced her to the Gunmen he could tell that Mulder had something for his partner, and that the feelings, whatever they were, were reciprocated. He knew he'd never have a chance with Dana Scully, but that wouldn't stop him from admiring her beauty. He heard someone call out his name, and he shut the door quickly, but quietly. 'Not that those two would notice,' he thought. "Mr. Frohike?" Walter Skinner asked. "I was looking for Agent Scully." Frohike nodded back towards the room. "I think she's checking up on Mulder again. But, I think when she's finished she's going to rest a little while on the other bed in there. She was really beat the last time I saw her." Skinner nodded. "If you do see her, tell her I'd like to talk to her." "Will do," Frohike nodded as Skinner walked off. He looked at the two coffees on the chair and figured Scully wouldn't be needing it now. Oh, well, Byers or Langly would take one. As he walked off he looked back at Mulder's door once more, and smiled, muttering "It's about damn time." Finito! Hope ya liked it! Liz XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX So I was a little unsatisfied with the ending of the ep. This version is more pleasing to shippers. Well, at least it is to me.
