| Wood is the most commonly used natural material of all. It can be used as structural support and decoration. Since wood acts as good thermal insulation, it is ideal for floors, walls and ceilings. There are two main categories to consider: |
| Coniferous |
| These are softwoods, which are mostly evergreens. These include cedars, redwood, pines, firs, spruce, larch and hemlock. Their colors can be creamy white to reddish brown. |
| These are hardwoods, which lose their leaves yearly. These include oak, ash, beech, birch, elm, maple, poplar, sycamore, walnut, mahogany, teak, sapele, iroke, obeche, afrormosa and pallisander. Their colors range from whitish yellow, browns, reds, purples and blacks. |
