Fieldstone Meadows Horse Farm
Fieldstone Meadows Yesterday
At one time,Fieldstone Meadows Horse Farm was one of the largest Paso Fino breeding Farms in the East. After being introduced to the breed in the 1970's, Arthur and Lee Glatfelter purchased two Pasos. That quickly grew into a herd that in the early 1980's, numbered around 90 head.It was the Glatfelter's dream to produce a Paso Fino that was the ultimate pleasure horse. They wanted a horse that could be trail ridden or shown. They advertised their farm in local papers and outdoor magazines and held open houses. They attended shows and produced television programs that were aired on local stations. In short, they took any opportunity available to promote the breed they had fallen in love with. Probably their brightest moment was when Juan Miguel del Prado was named Grand National Champion Bella Forma Stallion in 1992 at the tender age of 3.
Unfortunately, in August of 1996, after a short battle with cancer, Mrs. Glatfelter passed away. The farm had really been her project from the beginning. At that point, Mr. Glatfelter made a hard decision. The herd which now numbered about 50 head was to be drastically reduced.
Fieldstone Meadows Today
Today, Fieldstone's 100 plus acres of woodland and pasture are home to just 16 horses. Two full time employees care for the horses and handle the upkeep of the farm. Mr Glatfelter tries to make time to ride once or twice a month, weather permitting. At 80 years old, it seems nothing is going to slow him down any time soon.
Although no longer the 'powerhouse' it once was, the farm still tries to educate the public whenever possible. School groups and summer recreation programs come to visit and learn about horses. Occasionally a call is received from an individual wanting to see a Paso and learn a little more about the smooth ride. If they are searching for a Paso of their own, they are given info as to where they can continue that search.
At this time the only service we offer is breeding to our stallion,Juan Miguel del Prado. We will only breed to Paso Fino mares. We do not offer boarding, training, lessons or trail rides. If you would like to visit, please email or call ahead to schedule a time as this is a working farm and we are not always available for unexpected visitors.
