"Dally Away the Afternoon" (2001) 25" x 20" Coloured Pencil |
This portrait was commissioned by a fan of the surrealist painter Salvador Dali (1904 - 1989). It combines parts of several of his works including "Persistence of Memory" (1931 - with his famous melting watches) and "Dali Nude" (1954 - without the nude Dali part, of course). Also, can you see the "Hidden Image of Michelangelo's 'David'" (1982) in the rocks? Although the overall picture maintains the surreal quality that Dali is famous for, it's actually filled with fairly common images. Most of the great ideas for ths portrait came from the little girl's father. The mother's eyes, the family cat, the pyramids, the hieroglyphics, etc. all have special meaning to the family either directly of symbolically. |
