Evodius is a Citizen of Rome and regards his Emperor, Ceaser Apollonus, as the infallible guiding light of the Empire.  Fiercly protective and loyal to his country and countrymen, Evodius has taken his responsibility as a soldier to heart and done well as an infantryman, at first, and then as a Centurion leading men into battle with the Celts.
The concept for Evodius was to try and make a Paladin during the times of the Roman empire's invasion of the Celts, roughly 240 b.c.

The word Paladin usually brings to mind a picture of an armored knight gallantly riding through the countryside righting wrongs and saving maidens.  But a Paladin could have existed during the Roman era, he would have simply looked and acted slightly different.

After some research into a couple of different Roman religions common for a soldier in the time of the Empire, my favorite was that of Mithras, the god of the sun, war, protector and brotherhood.  Mithras is actually an ancient Persian religion that begame hugely popular when it was officially adopted by a roman Emporer.

There are some striking similarities between christianity and Mithraism that makes playing Evodius fairly easy, as I have a real world framework to base it off of.

The basic concepts of Mithraism and Mithras himself will be detailed HERE, taking liberties for this being a representational, fictional D&D character, of course.
