Everything Is Beautiful

Written and recorded with Bruce Kaphan in mid 1995, it was originally meant to be for a musical adaption of a book called "Left-handed Woman" by Peter Handke that was going to be made into a film but was never completed.
It ended up being released on 60 Watt Slver Lining in March 1996.
Of the songs that were written for the film this is the only one that has ever seen the light of day though the whole collection of songs was performed once at a Hollywood soundstage in August 1997.
It was first performed live by Mark in London in September 1995 and was played on and off til early 1998  but not since.
A four track demo version was released on a flexi disc which came with issue 38 of the Pop Culture Press magazine in 1996.
The thinnest rope won’t hang you
it’ll break and you’ll be
just another pen stroke
for the sunset
or the dawn
or the dawn

A little girl child of x or y
who doesn’t speak
who doesn’t know at least at the right time
and that’s all anybody wants
not angel wings
not invisible things

And everything’s beautiful
but babe not you or me

Like a tower ready to fall
spinning over the ground
like the gorilla ride
there’s moments and minutes
there’s seasons and there’s dreams
glued onto dreams
And everything’s beautiful
but babe not you or me
And everything’s beautiful
but babe not you or me

You’re the girl in the paperweight
I barely know you
you’re so quiet - is there nothing
in this weird perspective
that’ll let me breathe in the smell of Eden
in your eternally open eyes
I barely see you
I barely see you

And everything’s beautiful
but babe not you or me
Yeah everything’s beautiful
but babe not you or me
I barely see you
I barely see you
I barely see you

And everything’s beautiful
but babe not you or me
