Sleep

One of the last songs to be written for "The Invisible Man", it was written on a train up to Birmingham in August 2000 and played live for the first time that night at Ronnie Scotts. It was played live fairly consistently right up until the AMC reformation in August 2003
A live version is officially available on the WFMU live broadcast from April 16th 2001 that was sold on tour and via the website. An interesting alternative version can be found on the demos for "The Invisible Man" that are in circulation.
Now I love all seven deadly sins
I love to watch 'em smile on the celebrity smile show
You know that's the show everybody wins
A fabulous tour of the hell they already know
And some people know how to trap the light
Like a bird in flight knows how to trap the sun
Some people keep their lump of coal saftley out of sight
Thinking one day it wiull be as hard as diamond

And if I had a song that could disolve in sleep
A pedal steel guitar simple and clean
If I had a song that could dissolve in sleep
Maybe you'd hear it all through your dream

Altar boys look good in lace
But they're not known for their guts or good nature
Goodness is not some pretty picture you paint
It's shaking your fist into the face of danger

If I had a song thatcould dissolve you in sleep
Because sleep is the only thing you look forward to
If I had a song that could dissolve you in sle
Maybe you'll have a dream you'll want to come true

Some saviours weep and weep
And think their tears are gonna sew the world back together
And some saviours live in trouble deep
And die knowing nothing more than a failure

If I had a song that could dissolve in sleep
Maybe it could save you
