Will You Ever Make Room At My Table

Written in the spring of 1998 and was demoed with Bruce Kaphan that summer before being recorded again in January 1999. This version was released in 2001 as part of the Eitzel Superhits International tour cd.
It was played live, solo & with band, through the fall of 1998 and early 1999.
You can see in his face he’s got far too much to say
I guess that’s a good enough reason for you to turn away
Well sometimes those tiny flaws can be fatal
Will you ever make room at your table?

Now he comes on like some extra from The Night of the Living Dead
He said his arm fell of and so did his nose and now he don’t feel sexy
But wouldn’t it be great if we could celebrate a miracle
Will you ever make room at your table?
Will you ever make room at your table?

Too many hours spent playing computer solitaire
Too many nights spent watching Taxi Driver
Better to be laughed with than to be laughed at
Funny how many times my mother told me that
And now that he lost the war, will you let him win a battle?
Will you ever make room at your table?
Will you ever make room at your table?
Will you ever make room at your table?
Will you ever make room at your table?

I don’t wanna throw away people or special effects
I don’t want bells or whistles, I don’t want your regrets
I don’t want clever conversation, just give me hope
Yeah and I don’t wanna hang at the end of your rope
I know you’re gonna turn your back on me and walk away
I know that there’s nothing I can do to make you stay
Yeah but I’m ready, I’m willing, I’m able
Will you ever make room at your table?
Will you ever make room at your table?
Will you ever make room at your table?
Will you ever make room at your table?
