THE EMBRYONICS!
Jorg (bass), Lutz (guitar), Fiddler (drums) and Jens (vocals)
While on the first Tommyknockers tour in Europe, we met this crazed German band, the Embryonics! Jens on vocals, his brother, Jorg, on bass, Lutz on guitar and Stefan ("Fiddler" - no one seemed to know how he got that knickname!) on drums. We hit it off immediately - Lutz becoming one of my closest friends ever - and played several shows together on the first tour, and then did 2 complete tours together. Besides being incredibly nice, fun people, these guys were one of the greatest bands we ever saw! Noisy, sloppy, charismatic to an extreme, drunk more often than not, this group regularly put on some of the best shows ever! By the end of their set they would invariably be covered in sweat and beer, muddy from head to toe from slipping on the stage that they covered in booze and rolling around on the ground, completely drained and the crowd raving for more! This was one of the hardest bands we ever had to follow! We "brought" them to the West Coast for a series of shows with us and they captured the souls of every rock-n-roller in LA! In less than a week there was talk of being signed to a major label! Unfortunately, that never occured, but to this day people will talk of these shows! They broke up in the mid-90's, but all still continue to either play or work in music. Several singles were released and a full length was discussed, but as of now, still has not surfaced. Hopefully someday it will appear and the world can bask in the glory that was the Embryonics!
The Singles!
The "Sicker Than God" EP contained the classic "Hate (Is Your Name)", along with "Don't Be That Way" and "Born Yesterday". What a debut! I got a lot of shit while wearing the t-shirt for this record out in public!
"Enter the Sick World of the Embryonics" included "Suppose" (a "love" song - so Jens said - with the line "Suppose you would die tomorrow?!") and "Not the Only One"
"My Problems Are Bigger Than Your Tits" EP with terrific artwork by the infamous Merinuk. Songs include the title, "Put You Down", "Trash/Cool" and a version of "Sonic Reducer" that they learned from the Tommyknockers!
A split EP with a number of other bands and including their genius tune "You're So Ugly, You're Beautiful"! Embry Pix! Lutz relaxing at his home/office in between tour shows Embryonics Promo Pix! At the Rose Club - the first show the Tommyknockers ever played with the Embryonics and our first meeting! We shared equipment and shared the stage that first night and every show following! Jorg, Lutz & Jens rocking at the Napoleanic fort in Italy! Fiddler relaxing at the fort Jorg stage-diving at the fort! Lutz & Jorg backstage Fiddler, Jorg and Lutz rockin' in Ravena, Italy! Lutz & Jorg backstage drinking again! Jens & Lutz in action in Dusseldorf Lutz in Dusseldorf OK, this is one of those "you had to be there" gigs! Utter chaos by all involved and the whole club became our stage! Impossible to remember it all, but it will never be forgotten! Unfortunately, most of the pix from that night did not turn out. Jens, Lutz and Fiddler Chemnitz, East Germany - Jens was unbelievable at this show! I literally have never seen anyone ever have so much control over the audience! They would sit at his command, he got them all to come on the stage, they would jump at his command - wow! The band relaxing at the Slash club - the last show of our tour and the last show we ever did together! Fiddler doing his patented "drum crawl" at the Slash club! A common occurence at an Embryonics show - Fiddler getting his ass kicked! I have no idea what is going on here! Ultra-rockin' early photo! Check out the pants on these cats! They guys were COOL!
