School Demonstration at Virginia Run Elementary, Fairfax County, February 8, 2002 by the Roman re-enactment group Legio XX | ![]() |
Asselina (Allison Campbell) is teaching 150 fifth graders about Roman civilian life and economics. The day was a great success, as you can see, with the kids crawling all over the caupona. Asselina will be adding bronze pots and articles to hang from the rafters. Asselina is wearing a golden linen gap sleeved tunic with a linen over tunic of light blue pinned at the shoulders. (Normally, a tavern worker would not wear such nice clothes.) |

The caupona itself is in fine shape,
having weathered the winter in an unheated garage, but the roof needs patching.
The idea of paint over styrofoam will be amended to cover the styrofoam
with luan paneling on both top and bottom. This does not add much to the
weight but is much stiffer and will look better. I'll be able to fix the
tiles on permanently.
In order to add a grill, we'll have to add another panel to deepen the caupona another three feet, and extend the roof as well. |
