TAY YAYINLARI | ||||||||||
Tay Yayınları (Tay Publications) was Turkey's leading comics publisher in the 1970s. Owned and run by Sezen Yalçıner, Tay entered the comics field in 1969 with Tom Braks [Alan Mistero]. Its most popular title has arguably been Zagor. It is widely accepted that a large credit for Tay's success in the comics market should be given to lavishly illustrated covers by Turkish artists, most notably by Aslan [Aslan Şükür] among others. Until 1979, Tay's comics magazines were published weekly, with back issues being rebound into 'albums'. In 1979, the weekly format was abandoned and the titles existing were continued only in the album format with new adventures scattered among reprints. New titles introduced afterwards were published bi-weekly or monthly. Tay closed its shop in 1995 and was succeeded briefly by Ecem Yayınları which turned out to be a very short-lived venture. |
