Rickel Knox was born on February 26th 1988 in Kingston New York. She grew up on her Main Street home with her mother. Rickel attended the Edson Elementary School in Kindergarten and beginning of First Grade. She enjoyed a trip to the Catskill Game Farm with her friends. Rickel loved riding her bike, roller skating, playing with her friends and going to Church every week. She was a bright, smart, young girl with many hopes and dreams. On September 21st 1995, Rickel was kidnapped while roller skating outside her home. The next day the police caught the suspect of the kidnapping, Larry Whitehurst, her mother's exboyfriend. At 11pm on September 23rd 1995, Larry Whitehurst admitted to kidnapping Rickel Knox. At midnight on September 24th 1995, Whitehurst makes a deal with the prosecuters, he would lead the police to Rickel in exchange for leniancy. Her small body was found before morning. Rickel's death was recorded on September 25th 1995. On September 30th 1995, about 1,000 people attended Rickel's funeral and offered comfort and support to her family and friends. In October, a small tree was planted in memory of Rickel at her school. A large ceremony was also held in her honor, on planting the tree.
