20 Years... Madness? THIS IS TOOBING!
Aug 3-5, 2007

Troublemaker! ... The Big Float will occur on Saturday at high noon! Arrive to camp at the river Thursday or Friday for this glorious gathering. On Saturday morning, we'll finish inflating toobs, roping beer toobs, preparing body and soul, and then hop in below Troublemaker (a ferocious class 3+ rapid), float for almost 2 hours down to the bridge, jump off the bridge if you dare, caravan back to camp, lounge around and take another dose of Troublemaker if you can, then bbq and celebrate into the night. Sunday will bestow more relaxation until we must peel ourselves away from the river paradise.

We Toobists have descended from the River itself. Taught never to retreat, never to surrender. Taught that toobing is the greatest glory one could achieve in life. Toobists! Prepare for glory! - Click here to see the Toobists of 20!

Going the Distance! We'll be staying at the American River Campground/Resort in Coloma Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. It takes a little over three hours to drive from the Bay Area (see directions at bottom of page). I plan to be there about 7pm Thursday. Arrive anytime that fits your schedule. If you arrive to the camping area Friday after office hours(10pm), there will be a map on the front door of the office with "Unter" on it showing where our campsites are. We have the RIVER SITES reserved (#5-6 & 10-25). If you are planning to drive up Saturday morning, make sure you get to Coloma by 11am. If you are just coming for the day, tell the guy at the gate you're with the "Unter" group. Don't be late, because we will hop in the river just before noon!

Give it away! Its a natural thing. So, bring your SPECIAL SOMETHING TO SHARE with everyone (other years included body paint, mild, wacky and wild treats, paint for toobs, rubber duckies, flaming sambuccas, nuding up, jello shots, buttons, music, club trub, etc.) - ignite a new tradition for this year to celebrate the past 20!

Put on your stylin' toobwear - Dress as something from past 20 years of toobing, something from 1987 (Bizarre Lover Triangle, Brass Monkey, Bon Jovi, Run DMC, Princess Bride, Ferris Bueller, Dirty Dancing, Moonlighting), a Spartan, Persian King Xerxes, a French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet, or whatever your mind creates... the possibilities are endless!

Camp Stuff! Its car-camping... but most cars will need to be parked up in the office parking lot. There are showers and running water close at hand. There is a general store with camping necessities, food, and beer. If you're thinking of bringing a dog, the policy of the campground is that they need to be on a leash and cannot be left alone/tied up. Given the large group, the FOOD plan is up to you and your camping group. Bring what you'll need and to share. The plan for Saturday night is to share bbq's.

Toob Heads! Everyone needs their own TOOB and I've acquired 60+ of them. Good solid 10.0R 20's! This is yours to keep for future, so love it and feed it and give it a name... Just like in previous years, we will float drinks in a few cooler tubes.

Bring it! Once again, Toobhedd will be cooking up banana pancakes Saturday morning for everyone to enjoy.
-BRING food for Saturday lunch & dinner and Sunday breakfast and perhaps lunch
-BRING stove, pots, pans, utensils
-BRING sleeping bag, tent, pad, ground cloth
-BRING CHAIRS
-BRING lantern, flashlight
-BRING sunscreen, river shoes/sandals
-BRING other camping/water toys
-BRING your own beer or whatever you drink
-BRING lots of ICE and large COOLERS to keep it all frosty
-BRING cans, not glass bottles - broken glass and rivers don't mix
-BRING your SPECIAL SOMETHING TO SHARE (see above "Give It Away!")
-BRING some stylin' toobwear (see above "Give It Away!")

Watch out for that ROCK! Yes, you can fall out of your toob...there are sharp, hard things in rivers which get in your way - but scars are cool, right? Troublemaker is a serious rapid, so we have helmets for anyone who chooses to brave it. Several have pulled themselves out from the rapids feeling like a drowned rat in prior years. Also, you've gotta wear the right threads to protect that rugged tuber image. You've gotta wear a LIFE VEST (that's all the ranger asks of us!) and I'm renting about 70 of them. Also, wear teevas, flojos, or old shoes to that will stay on your feet (feet are your first defense) and don't bring expensive sunglasses (cause you'll lose them to the River God)...
-If you do go through Troublemaker:
>put on a helmet
>link up with someone experienced (they should be in back)
>keep as far LEFT as possible and take a BIG breath
>If you tip over, put feet forward and keep arms in against vest

How time flies! Here's a quick recap of the highlights over the past 20 years:
2006 - 65 Crazy Toobers!, Club Trub, Bob's secret path, Butt Up!...
2005 - 69 of us, Tubism, rubber things everywhere, these things are fun and fun is good, but just don't eat the cookies...
2004 - 59 of us, a more dangerous Troublemaker, blue moon inspiration, ...
2003 - 62 of us floating, tubismaximus, strength and rubber! mild, wacky and wild...
2002 - 51 of us floating, sharing the funk... body-painting, a ring of fire...
2001 - 50 of us came from as far as Sweden for Full Moon Tubing! There was a satellite hook-up and flaming sambucas burnt some lips... ;)
1999 - 37 toobing, fire-dancing, arm-breaking and a few naked fools...gawd that was fun!
1998 - 25 perhaps... Its a little hazy, but I believe we had some solid dirt to sleep on.
1997 - 20 of us, a keg, and this was the year that 'crazy toob hedd' was born when he popped his tube and discovered the perfect hat. See how we've evolved...
1996 - 5 of us at the upper King's River... a little hotter, rougher and oh was it good.
1994 - 29 of us over a 3 day weekend - Whipple arrives TWO days late!
1993 - 35 post-college tubers - Shan did a triple flip with a twist off the bridge to wow the onlooking local kids and the song C-O-L-oma was born.
1992 - 20 people, Evans makes it through Troublemaker wearing a cast, Ruiz sacrifices 2 cases but coins the ever-lasting 'butt-up!'
1990 - 10 people and the 'beer tree' was planted in peace and quiet.
1989 - Its still not clear, but Whipple promises 30 friends and shows up with 3...
1988 - Ahh the memories...what happened again?
1987 - 8 people, the first year, its all blurry, but I think it involved rum slurpees.
