Club Profile

It was brief encounter between me and our ninong DGSR Rudy San Felipe, past president of the Rotary Club of Lakeshore Rizal, in a routine Monday flag ceremony in front of the Capitol Bldg., in Pasig City, sometime on the first week of September 1994. He approached me and told to organize a Rotary Club in Tanay. "No less than 25 male individuals are first needed," he said. I said, "Yes". On September 17, 1994, the first organizational meeting of the provisional club of Tanay was held at Halamanan Restaurant, Manila East Road, Brgy. Plaza Aldea, Tanay, Rizal. The first meeting was so responsive. The "respondents" were: Gonzalito P. De Dios, Augusto I. Arroyo, Rafael P. Mateo, Porex P. Mina, Leopoldo M. Capistrano, Cesar A, Bautista, Jesus S. Catameo, Sonny Castillo, Alvaro Catolos, Leo G. Solano, Sid C. Roxas, Frank T. Nicolabo, Efren M. Talavera, and RC Lakeshore Rizal was represented by PP Rudy San Felipe, Joel N. Angeles, Kado Gutierrez, Bayani D. Jimenez and Florante F. Diñozo.
They say "13" is a lucky number. The original 13 respondents multiplied. But then, the group had decided to transfer its second pre-organizational meeting on September 24, 1994 to the present venue in Café Aldea with the usual hospitality extended by former mayor and board member Leonisa M. Vergel de Dios or "Ka Leoning" as she was fondly called.
Subsequent meetings followed with DGRS Rudy San Felipe, Asst. District Secretary Romy Cabungcal, District Extension Chair Ymir Arevalo and other Rotarians from RC Lakeshore.
Then came the historical climax of the club. On December 3, 1994 at about 2:00 PM in Café Aldea, the Charter of the Rotary Club of Tanay was formally signed by 34 charter members in the presence of the Rotary Club of Lakeshore Rizal. The club was finally chartered with the Rotary International on March 8, 1995 with Rafael "Paeng" P. Mateo as its charter president.
