THE ANAPHORA OF ST SEVERIUS

The Prayer of Peace

O GOD, Creator of all, and of humanity that Thou didst make rational in Thine own image and likeness, bringing us into existence and adorning us with Thy divine gifts; Thou didst ordain for us the law to love one another, desiring that we all be one, even as Thou and Thine Only-begotten Son, our Lord and God and Savior Jesus Christ, are one. Free us from all divisions and unite our hearts with the communion of Thy Holy Spirit and make us worthy to greet one another with a holy kiss and thus become one body and one spirit, even as we have been called in the one hope of our calling in Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom with Thee and Thy Living Holy Spirit we render glory and honor, in both worlds unto the Aeon of aeons.
Amen. Barekhmar!

THE LOVE of God the Father, the grace of the Only-begotten Son, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.
Amen. And with thy spirit.
LIFT up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
LET us give thanks to the Lord.
It is meet and right.

The Prayer of the Qadisha

TO WHAT height or depth of thought or what power of word might we attain that we would be able to offer unto Thee the proper praise, O King of kings and God Almighty? Even as Thou didst establish the noetic powers, Thou didst also make the perceptible creation out of nothing. Thou hast formed Adam out of visible substance and invisible soul and hast made him the recipient of all virtue and of the divine likeness in order that we might not be deprived of all the wondrous works which were performed by Thee, but that even the dust might enjoy the ecstasy of Thy glory and become enriched by the good things of the angels. When we consider all Thy works we become amazed at Thee, O Maker of all things, and we worship Thee in the depth of silence. Even the congregations of the angels, the chief ranks of the archangels, the supreme angels of the throne, the unchanging principalities, the realms of the dominions, the myriads of powers, the majesty of the princely angels and the spirits of the righteous, the Church of the firstborn whose names are written in the heavenly Jerusalem, the many-eyed cherubim, the six-winged seraphim and the intelligences of nature tremble at Thine invisible and incomprehensible divinity. When they move among themselves and make clear the incomprehensibility and the incomparability of the sight, they sing the continuous glory of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and cry out and say holy!

The Qadisha

Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Tzevaoth, heaven and earth are full of Thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is He that comes in the Name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

The Prayer of the Anamnesis

WHO CAN speak of Thy might and who can declare Thy glory? Thou art in truth, O God and Father, the Head of all. From Thee shone forth the co-eternal Son, the unique Wisdom that springs forth from Thy substance, inseparably and eternally, equal in might and in all the glory that is Thine. Holy also Thy Living Holy Spirit, all perfect and omnipotent, who without beginning and throughout eternity proceeds from Thee, O Father. Therefore the heavenly powers glorify One God in Three Persons. Who can gaze intently into the depth of Thy love toward mankind? While we were still condemned for transgression of the commandment, God the Word, the Only-begotten Son and the brightness of Thy glory, became the Leader of our salvation. He took flesh from the holy Mother of God, the Ever-Virgin Mary, who was sanctified by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit so that, when He was conceived and born, He became like us in body, soul and mind and completely united with Adam, and made for us the beginning of the ascent into heaven.

The Anamnesis

WHEN HE, the sinless one, prepared to accept death for us sinners, He took bread into His holy hands and when He had given thanks, He blessed and consecrated and broke it, giving it to His holy apostles, saying:
Sabu, akolu, hanau paghri.
Take, eat, this is My Body; which is broken for you and for the many, given for the remission of sins and for everlasting life.
Amen.
LIKEWISE He also took the cup and when He had given thanks, He blessed consecrated and gave it to His holy apostles, saying:
Sabu, eshthu meneh kolkhon, hanau demi.
Take, drink it all of you, this is My Blood; which is shed for you and for the many, given for the remission of sins and for everlasting life.
Amen.

The Prayer of Commemoration

WE OFFER this bloodless sacrifice, Lord Jesus, and beseech Thee on account of Thy love toward us, for which Thou didst willingly deliver up Thyself. We make remembrance also of Thy dread and glorious second coming when Thou shalt sit upon Thine exalted throne and tens of thousands of angels and archangels shall stand before Thee. When the river of fire shall flow and test the work of all as they are, do not turn away Thy face from us, O Lord! Thy people and Thine inheritance entreat Thee, saying:
Kyrie eleison!

The Prayer of Thanks for All Things

MOREOVER do Thy weak and sinful servants, having received Thy grace, give Thee thanks and praise for all things and by reason of all things, O Lord.
We praise Thee,
We bless Thee,
We worship Thee
And we give Thee thanks,
O Lord, our God.

The Prayer of the Epiclesis

HAVE mercy upon us, O Father Almighty, and consider the cry and the sighing of Thy people and accept this sacrifice for a sweet fragrance on Thy spiritual altar high above the heavens. From the height of Thy holy sanctuary send us the Comforter, the Giver of Life, who spoke through the prophets and the apostles, who is present everywhere and fills all things, bestowing holiness of Her own free will to them that are worthy through Thy good pleasure.
Amen. Barekhmar!

The Epiclesis

HEAR me, O Lord! Hear me, O Lord! Hear me, O Lord, and have mercy!
Kyrie eleison, Kyrie eleison, Kyrie eleison!
MAY the Holy Spirit abiding here make this bread the life-giving Body the redeeming Body the true Body of our God and Savior Jesus Christ.
Amen.
AND perfect this chalice into the Blood of the new covenant, the redeeming Blood the true Blood of our God and Savior Jesus Christ.
Amen.

The Prayer for the Communicants

GUIDE, O Lord, our earthly life and make us ready to meet Thine Only-begotten Son, so that when He comes with the angels in Thy glory to gather His saints, we may not remain under the pressure and the weight of sins which we have committed, but make us worthy to sing pure hymns unto Thee and to Thine Only-begotten Son and Thy Living Holy Spirit, One God, in both worlds unto the Aeon of aeons.
Amen.

The Diptychs

Barekhmar! For the holy churches of God, for our Metropolitan, Mar _____, (for our Bishop, Mar _____,) for all the Orthodox Catholic bishops and for all the clergy and all the faithful, that their prayers may be a stronghold for us, let us pray to the Lord!
Kyrie eleison!
WE OFFER unto Thee this bloodless sacrifice, O Lord, first on behalf of the holy Zion, the mother of all the churches, and on behalf of Thy holy Church throughout the whole world, that Thou mayest grant to her the gift of Thy Holy Spirit. Remember, O Lord, our Metropolitan, Mar ___, (the Archbishop(s) Mar ___ (and Mar ___), (our bishop Mar ___) and the priests, the deacons and all the orders of Thy Church along with my own feeble self. Remember not the sins of my youth, but make me to live according to Thy mercy. Remember also our kindred: the prisoners, the sick, the infirm, the afflicted, and those who are tormented by evil spirits. Bless the air and the crown of the year, filling all the living with good will.

For the founders of this holy house, for those who pray with us here and for those absent from us, let us pray to the Lord!
Kyrie eleison!
REMEMBER, O Lord, them that stand and pray with us, and do Thou remember also them that have departed from among us and them that wished to offer this sacrifice but could not, and to every one grant what is good. Remember, O Lord, all them we have mentioned and them we have not mentioned and receive their sacrifices into the breadth of Thy heavens. Bestow upon them the joy of Thy salvation and make them worthy of Thy help. Strengthen them with Thy power and arm them with Thy might.

For pious rulers and for our civil authorities, let us pray to the Lord!
Kyrie eleison!
REMEMBER, O Lord, every pious ruler and governor. Aid them with the spiritual armor and subdue all their enemies that we may lead a peaceful life.

That He will remember our holy Fathers and Mothers, the Prophets and the Apostles, Saint John the Forerunner and Saint Stephen the martyr and all the righteous with Mary the Virgin Mother of God, let us pray to the Lord!
Kyrie eleison!
O THOU that hast authority over life and death, remember our holy fathers and mothers, the prophets, apostles, and martyrs; Mary the Virgin Mother of God, St John the Forerunner, and St Stephen the martyr together with all the righteous. Unite us with the multitudes of the firstborn whose names are written in the heavenly Jerusalem.

That He will remember all the true teachers who have confirmed us in the true faith, from Saint James of Jerusalem even until this day, let us pray to the Lord!
Kyrie eleison!
CONFIRM in our souls the doctrines of the enlightened and the doctors who carried Thy holy Name before the nations and before the kings and the children of Israel. Bring to an end the heresies that trouble us, and make us worthy of a blameless stand before Thy dreadful judgment seat.

That He will remember all the faithful departed, let us pray to the Lord!
Kyrie eleison!
O LORD of spirits and all flesh, remember all them that have departed from us in the true faith. Give rest to their bodies, their souls and their spirits. Deliver them from endless condemnation and make them to rejoice in the place where the light of Thy countenance shines, blotting out their offenses and entering not into judgment with them, for there is none innocent before Thee save Thine Only-begotten Son, through whom we also hope to find mercy and forgiveness of sins for His sake, both for us and for them.

Having commemorated all the saints, let us commend ourselves and one another and our whole life unto Christ our God!
To thee, O Lord.
KEEP us, O Lord, without sin until our end and gather us at the feet of Thine elect. Let our end come when and where and as Thou wilt, but leave us not in shame for our offenses so that Thine honored and blessed Name may be glorified and praised, in this as in all things, together with the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ and that of Thine all good and Living Holy Spirit, one in essence with Thee, in both worlds unto the Aeon of aeons.
Amen.
PEACE be with you all.
And with thy spirit.

The Dogmatikon

THUS did the Word of God truly suffer in the flesh and was sacrificed and broken on the cross, sundering His soul from His body while His godhead was in no way separated from His soul or His body. For the sins of the whole world and their forgiveness did He die on the Cross and His soul came and was united with His body. And He turned us from wrong practice to right deeds. By His blood He reconciled and united the hosts of heaven with us, His people with the nations, and the soul with the body. The third day He rose again from the tomb. And He is One Immanuel, indivisible into two natures after the indivisible union of His godhead and His humanity.
Thus we believe and confess and confirm that this Flesh is of this Blood and that this Blood is of this Flesh.

The Preface of the Lord's Prayer

ALMIGHTY Lord, whose Name is great, who art beyond every understanding and who didst, while we were yet strangers to the covenant, bring us to this knowledge and draw us to the inmost parts of Thy sanctuary, make us worthy to renounce all material thoughts and to seek only Thy kingdom and Thy righteousness and to pray unto Thee saying:

The Lord's Prayer

OUR Father,
Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
PEACE be with you all.
And with thy spirit.

The Bidding of the Inclination

Before partaking of these divine and holy Mysteries offered here, let us again bow down our heads to the Lord!
To Thee, O Lord.

The Prayer of Inclination

O GOD, who didst so love us as to grant us adoption, incline Thine ear and hear us who have bowed our heads to Thee. Purify us even as Thine Only-begotten Son is pure. Let pride be removed from us by Him that humbled Himself for us, and cowardice be taken away by Him that suffered in the flesh and raised the sign of the victorious Cross. Let vanity cease from us through Him that was beaten and scourged for our sake. May the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world bring an end to envy, murder and hatred from among us. Let anger and wrath be removed from us by Him that put the adversary to shame by His crucifixion. Dispel from us all evil thoughts through Him that raised us up to heaven, so we may partake in purity of these most holy Mysteries and be completely sanctified in body, mind, soul and spirit and thus offer unto Thee praise and thanksgiving and to Thine Only-begotten Son and to Thy Living Holy Spirit, One God, in both worlds unto the Aeon of aeons.
Amen.

The Great Blessing

THE GRACE and mercy of the Holy Trinity; glorious, uncreated, self-existent, eternal, adorable and one in essence be with you all, my kindred, unto the Aeon of aeons.
Amen.

The Second Censing

The Elevation

Barekhmar! With reverence and fear, behold!
Kyrie eleison!
THE HOLY Mysteries are for the Holy.
One Holy Father,
One Holy Son,
One Holy Spirit,
Who are One. Amen.

The Blessing of Bourktha

MAY the grace of the Holy Trinity come down upon this bread, its givers, receivers and servers, and may the mercy of God be upon all its partakers in the past and those to come, in both worlds unto the Aeon of aeons.

The Communion

THE purifying fire of the Body and Blood of Christ is given to the servant of God, ___, for the remission of sins in both worlds and for everlasting life.
Amen.

The Repose of the Mysteries

Glory be to Thee! Glory be to Thee! Glory be to Thee, our Lord and God, forever!
LET NOT our participation in the Mysteries of Thy holy Body and Blood be unto us for judgement or condemnation, but for life and redemption to us all.
Amen. May the Name of the Lord be blessed unto the Aeon of aeons.

The Post-Communion Prayer

WHAT glory or praise or adequate thanks shall we render unto Thee, O God the Lover of humankind? Thou didst give us freedom while we were condemned to death and didst make us partakers of this immortal and heavenly food. Thou didst reveal to us the whole Mystery which was hidden since olden times and ages gone. Therefor do we offer praise unto Thee and Thy Son and Thy Living Holy Spirit, in both worlds unto the Aeon of aeons.
Amen. May this offering, O Lord be pleasing to Thy will. Let the angels rejoice with us and bring us unto Thee.

The Dismissal

BELOVED kindred, we commit you to the grace and mercy of the Holy Trinity. Depart now in peace. Those who are far off and those who are near, the living and the departed, all those saved by the victorious Cross, may the Blessed Trinity grant you pardon and remission of sins in both worlds. And may I, the weak and sinful servant, be helped by your prayers. Glad and joyous, go now in peace and pray for me always.
Amen.
