Update: 11.18.2002 Miday
Hey, I see there's been some traffic going to the beta download, please shoot me an email if you have problems D/Ling it, or if you have any comments/questions. No, I still haven't worked on it anymore, but if I get some feed back I may build up the ambition to get more of it finished off.
Update: 10.29.2002 Evening
Okay, so I've been completely slacking off on this. yeah, my life has been kinda crazy lately and now I'm working 80+ hours a week in a non-computer related field, so ya can guess how much energy I have at the end of the day. Anyways, I noticed some people have stopped by over the last few months and the email address I was using here is no longer in my possession (it got 300+ spams a day, so I just let it get auto deleted) so I have missed any comments anyone may have sent me. feel free to email me at ThatRickGuy@hotmail.com if you're interested in playing with a copy. I know there is a bug in the .ini file, so if you do d/l the beta you may have to either delete the ini file or open it with note pad and remove the text that is in it. here it is.
Update: 03.28.2002 Afternoon
I haven't heard high nor low from my testers. if anyone else out there would like to test the program, please send me an email.
and on a side note... I FINALLY got a job back in the IT world! no more broom pushing!

...Oh, and as a side note. this website and the HTML output from the ST:A program have been completely designed with notepad and IE 5. None of that pansy Front Page stuff.
After 12 hours of sleep and a nice fast 5 hour shift, I finally nocked out the last >known< problem with the beta. It is avalible for download, but only for my beta testers. If you are interested in testing it. please send me an email.
Weee... 6 hours sleep in the last 3 days. soooo much fun. had people bailing at work all weekend. and I had to take a trip to visit my Gramps who somehow managed to light himself on fire (no worries, he just got a few small 1st/2nd degree burns). and had another great werewolf game. ahh the joys. anyway, again, I'm apologizing for not finishing up the beta release, but I'm way tooo tired right now.
Well, back from the grave. Anyways, I'm going threw with the pre-beta stuff, it's just I've been so sick, i could barily do anything. but anyways, the program is looking solid, I'm just making sure the install is built correctly befor I send it out to my testers. Total file size looks like it'll be arround 2.5megs. not bad :)
Hey everyone, I'm sick as hell. after battling with a cold for this whole week, then having to fast for a day before giving a bunch of blood for a geneology study, I'm pretty wiped out, so the updates are gonna be postponed for a day or two while I'm get some sleep.
Had a Werewolf game today that totally rocked, so I got delayed in my work. I got thaumaturgy roughed into the web output (need to fix up some fonts and centering) and I can copy the code for Necromancy, but I'm hungry, so the rest will have to wait until tomorrow probrably, hey, I still have a life. other then that, I think I've got all the other ends tied up.
Okay, had to work, but I had a chance to take care of all the list ordering, the blood and health saving (DAMNIT! I forgot current will power!), all the tab orders, fixed the abilities/dots overlay. So, maybe today after I wake up I'll get on to the >shudder< memory. or maybe I'll just pass it off for another night to fix the HTML output. anyways, I'm off to bed!
Woowho. More done. got a new set of screen shots. check them out Here. got Thaumaturgy and Necromancy working smooth. got the jumping blood pool to stay like it should. Things I still need to do: change to z order on the abilities (sometimes clicking the 1 dot will pop up the specialty for the abilitiy) fix all the tab orders (so you can correctly tab through everything), set some of the combos to be alphabetical (I think I have most of them right), set the HTML export code to show 10 dots, set the Blood points and health to be modifiable (and saved) when not in edit mode. and I'd like to work out an organization box for the character listing, but I'll probrably have to track down a new object for it (too much of a hassel for a beta program) anyways. I still have to go through and make sure I'm killing all the variables. it's not sucking nearly as much memory as it was, but it's still not perfect. I was this program to run on a Pentium 200 w/ 32 megs of memory, but I think that'll be pushing it, I think a P2 400 w/ 64+ megs memory would be more realistic. my 1gig w/ 256 handles it with out a flinch now though. ahh well, if you would like to be a beta tester, shoot me an email. ringmstr666@hotmail.com
Another night off. It feels so strange to not be at work... ahh well. got plenty more done tonight, Thumaturgy is all done, a little work and Necromancy will be blended in as well. All the thum paths are in, and I added all the rituals from the main book, including the descriptions for the 1st level ones. I'll go back and do the 2nd later when the swelling in my wrists goes away. Finished setting the edit mode locks. anyways, if you think you'd be interested in getting in on the beta testing, send me an email at: ringmstr666@hotmail.com. ahh well, have fun.
Hey everyone. Had a few 'Suprize, you're working tonight' days due to some co-workers getting sick. so I haven't had anytime to work on fun stuff. But tonight, err, last night, had a few hours. I'm puttin gup a new Screen Shot so you can see how the revisions are coming along. I was getting really pissed off about having to type in the stats for the elders with scores above 5, and I was still having memory issues with the insane ammount of picture boxes, so I went through and redesigned some of the core of the program. it's back up to 10 dots in everything, but where in the original 10 dot structure there were aprx 560 picture boxes containing 250 byte pictures, there are now 56 pic boxes containing 3k pics. yes, if you do the math, that is actually more memory for the 56 pics, but, I don't have the exact number in front of me (need NT) each one of thes pic boxes take up a decent chunk more (I'm guessing arround 200k a piece) so, for a bit more head ache on my half, I got the memory requirements way down and kept the 10 dots. Also added tonight was the generation link for background. the BG field in the top right defaults to 13, once you put points into the Gen Background, it'll go down, and the 2 fields in the blood pool will reflect the appropriate gen. only problem is those flaws low gen and thin blood, but hey, that's what notes are for. Blood pool was also increased to allow 50 points, just incase any methuselahs show up. and that's all I can think of right now. time for me to sleeeeep. -Rick
Spent the evening hacking out more character from the campaign w/ my trusty sidekick. Found a few more little bugs, some of the combo boxes aren't added new things to the lists correctly, they only load when the program starts, no biggy, easy enough to fix. and the other, and still troublesome, memory leakage. I wish someone would write a program to tell me what variables were still open in memory after the program shuts down. but I'll work on that in the morning if I get off early. Tomorrow evening is already set aside for more character hacking.
Fixed the Rich text bug and centered the image. also set the Notes and History to only show if they are not empty. see the fixes Here. I also submited the site to get on the darkspiral list with White-Wolf. Check the link at the bottom of the page.
WoooWho! just finished up the Webpage character sheet. Completely automated from the ST:A program. check it out Here. Only bug is getting rid of the Rich Text formating on the notes and history, and aligning the damn pic at the bottom. but it's almost time to goto work, so have fun! Also, I re-read the copywrite in the front of the WW2300 book, and it said that reproducing copies of the charactersheet is ok. So, I'm thinking this should be fine as it is nothing more then a filled out character sheet in a web format.
Finished up the layout for the Web based character sheet today. Brought it into VB to help kick out the character pages for the web site. it is now somewhat opperational, the ST:A program kicks out a HTML page with the entire web formated character, but at the moment, only shows the information in the top portion of the character sheet. the rest of it I just have to set up a procedure for, so that should be done tomorrow, or maybe this evning when I wake up. (yes I work the 3rd shift). I'd put the web based character sheet up on the web, but I'm waiting to hear back from the head honcho's over at White Wolf.
Thanks to the fact that my VB skills are much better then my HTML skills, I've made a lot of progress on the storyteller's aide. Win 98 was having memory problems with the picture boxes. So I had to cut it down, from the earlier editions 10 dot sheet, to the revised 5 dot sheet. I >may< look into bringing it back up to 10 dots for the next version, but it'll mean doing some interesting things. But I have ideas on how. Anyways, I got it so it seems stable so far. I was able to enter in the entire list of NPC from the DC Campaign, although we don't have stats for them yet, I think the program should hold up fine (I have 2 completed characters in it and there doesn't seem to be any problems. Specializations are working (via text tool tips, leave the cursor over an atribute or skill and it will show the spec). The demeanors, natures, clan, concepts, disciplines, and backgrounds are all entered, and allow for custom entry. I >may< add the rituals and merits/flaws that I can find, but that'll come later. until then it's custom entry. I still have to finish the HTML export for the character stats, it shouldn't be too hard, but like I said, my VB skills are better then my HTML, so it's taking me a while to get the HTML layout to look good.
That's it for now.
