Introduction: I could have got away with just using my original NES walkthrough for this game if I really wanted to, but I decided that since I was playing the game anyways I might as well make a walkthrough for it. Every step of the way I’m going to tell you the changes that were made from the NES version to the GBA version, cause I’m a stickler for details. I didn’t include the 4 new areas though, only cause A=at this point I only actually went through two of them and B=it’s not necessary to beat the game. I’ll probably add to this walkthrough shortly. Oh, yeah by the way sorry for the weird spaces in my writing my keyboard really sucks!

***Walkthrough***

Cornelia: Suit up your guys with the best armour and weapons that you can in this town. Also get magic for your magic users. Talk to the guard at the north end of the town.  You’ll end up in   the castle. The king asks you to rescue his daughter, Sarah, from Garland in the Chaos Shrine. If you rescue Sarah they’ll rebuild the bridge to the north continent so you can pass once again.

NOTE: There are three symbols when looking at weapons and armours. The “=“ sign means that what you have already is just as good. The “^” sign means that the item is better than what you have and the “V” sign means that you have something better. Also, do   not equip the monk   at all; instead leave him with just his hands.  Also, there are four people in the inn that will teach you about items, equipment, magic and monsters. If you select  optimal” in your equip menu, it’ll automatically equip   the best weapons and armour in your inventory   on that    character.   That’s a new trick they put in, that wasn’t in the NES version of the game.  If you find that you don’t like a   particular spell that you have given your character (s), then you can use   the discard option, which was    also not in the NES version.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT:  This game comes with a bestiary option. This allows you to profile any enemies you have defeated so you can learn their weaknesses and resistances. This option comes in real handy when you start fighting harder monsters.

Castle Cornelia: Leave the castle.

Over   world: Fight monsters to gain levels. When you think you are ready to take on Garland, go to the Chaos shrine in the north, ignore the Earthgift Shrine, you can’t enter it right now anyways. For those of you who did play the original NES version, yeah your not crazy, they added this cave, as well as three others and   their completion is not necessary for you to beat the game.

NOTE: If you should happen to lose a   character bring them to   the clinic in town to   get them revived. If you get weak   go to   the inn, and   your MP and HP   will be   restored, unlike the first version on the NES your data will not be saved so   if you are used to that version you     are going to   have start getting used to saving your   data in the start menu. It’s better than having to frigging go all   the way   back    to town that’s for   sure. Also, if    you get fed up with the game cause you keep on dying it might be wise to check the bestiary, which gives you Intel on the monsters you are fighting.

Chaos Shrine: There are 3 chambers that are accessible to you. The mystic key binds the eastern chambers. You only have to visit the centre chamber, that’s where garland is.  Talk to garland. You’ll have to fight him but he’s a piece of cake. If you’re lucky you might get the longsword, which is one cool sword. Once you beat him you return to the castle and the king will get the bridge rebuilt for you.

T: Potion, Tent, and Leather Cap

M: Garland: 212 HP, 250gil, 130exp

Treasure: Longsword

Castle Cornelia: Talk to Sarah, she’ll give you the Lute. As soon as you leave the castle

You’ll   have to   watch the bridge be built.

T: Lute

Over world: Travel across the bridge and to the west; you want to go to a town called Pravoka. When you reach the bridge you witness yet another cut scene, this one was in the original game.

Pravoka: When you get to this town it won’t be long before you realise that pirates are attacking the people there. Don’t worry about this just yet; right now you should focus   on upgrading your equipment and magic. I’d try and get the best stuff I could before attempting to fight Bikke (he’s the pirate).  If you need more gil, go out of town and get it. Once   you are ready attack Bikke. Bikke gives you his ship once he loses the battle against you.

M: Pirate (x9): 24 HP, 40gil, 40exp

Treasure: Leather Shield

T: Ship

Over World: The boat will be waiting at the dock outside the town.  Get in the boat and travel south in the sea till you reach a dock.  South from there is Elfhiem (the home of the   famous Link gravestone. You probably can’t afford anything here and the inn cost is probably more than Cornelia, so it’s not worth staying the night there. But, go in the town and upgrade whatever you can. Now if you look at your map (hold b + press select) you’ll see a yellow dot southwest of your location.  Travel there.  If you get weak leave and go to Cornelia to restore your MP and HP and fallen members. Also, this is a very poisonous area, many monsters can poison you so if you don’t have the spell poisona, stock upon antidotes.

Marsh Cave B1: There are two sets of the stairs that you can travel: there is the north set of stairs and the south set of stairs. I’m starting off with the North set (which I do believe did not exist previously in the   NES version).

NOTE: Watch out   for slimes, they’re like your  Metal   Slimes” of Final Fantasy (for those hardcore nostalgic NES fans). Anyways, they take minimal damage from non-magical attacks: so   use magic!

Marsh Cave B2:  I’m pretty sure they didn’t have this in the first game; if they did I guess   I missed it. Anyways, it’s got a nice couple of treasures.

T: Dagger, Broadsword, 620gil, 680gil

Marsh Cave B2: Go down the stairs in the southeast corner.

Marsh Cave B3: This room is huge and there is   real nasty wizards that hangout here. Once you have the crown leave for the Western Keep. You’ll see it on the   map; it’s pretty much exactly north from   the Marsh   Cave.

T: Phoenix Down, 295gil, Cottage, Copper Armlet, Crown, 385gil

M: Piscodemon: 84 HP, 300gil, 276 exp

Resistance: Fire, stone, ice, paralysis, poison, darkness, sleep, silence, confusion, mind

NOTE: The crown will be in a treasure box surrounded by statues, that’s not all it’s surrounded by; Piscodemons guard it. You might notice that there are rooms bound by the mystic key…well we’ll deal with those soon.

Western Keep: Go   to the king of the castle.  You’ll have to fight him. Once you beat him head to   Maytoya’s Cave   with the crystal eye you got   from him.

M: Astos 420 HP, 2000gil, 2250exp

Treasure: Mythril Sword

T: Crystal Eye

NOTE:  Astos is huge for his instant death spells!!!

Over   world: So  sail  across  the  sea  to  Cornelia  and   it’s the    yellow dot  northeast from   there.  There’s a  dock  in the bay  north of Cornelia, just  sail  under  the bridge.

Matoya’s  Cave: Right as you walk in the room  you are subject to sort of  a cut scene. As soon as you can move again, talk to Matoya.  In  exchange for  the crystal  eye you’ll get a jolt tonic. Now in the NES version it wasn’t  a jolt tonic it was called the “herb” I  think?  And   the  crystal eye was the crystal ball. While you’re there why don’t you steal from her too, go in the chests in the west. Okay now  go to the Elven  Castle (part of   Elfhiem).

T: Jolt Tonic, potion x2, antidote

NOTE: A broom  will say to   you “tceles nottub B”…which is “select button B”. I taught   you that ahead of  time. Actually to    tell   you    the   truth, as a kid   I never got that message  in the original   game (the brooms also didn’t give you a riddle   either). I  actually discovered  the secret while   screwing around with the controller and learned what they said later.

Elven Castle: Talk  to  the healer,  next to the sleeping  king. He  uses  the tonic to  revive the  prince. Yay! You get the  mystic key!  Actually, this pretty much  changes everything you’ve come  to know.  Now you can  open all the  chests  you couldn’t before. Start with the ones in the northeast end of  the  castle. You   have to  sneak there  by  going on the grass and following the wall.

T:  Mystic Key, Mythril Hammer, 800gil, 700gil, Bronze Gloves

Castle Cornelia 1F:  Get the treasures you  couldn’t  before. Then  go to    the chaos  shrine.

T: Cottage, Saber, Mythril Knife, Iron Armor, Tent, nitro powder

NOTE: Don’t  worry  about  the  nitro powder right now.

Chaos Shrine: Get  the  treasures  you couldn’t  before, but watch out  they are guarded by gargoyles.  Next  go to  the Western   Keep.

T: Rune Blade, Werebuster, gold needle

M: Gargoyles: 80 HP, 80gil, 132 exp

Resistance: Quake

Western  Keep:  Get the  treasures  you couldn’t before but be careful they  are guarded  by  Wraiths and  Mummies. Go to the marsh cave next.

T: Falchion, Power Staff, and Steel Gloves

M: 1). Wraiths: 86 HP, 231gil, 231 exp

Treasure: Crosier

Weakness: Fire, dia

Resistance: Quake, ice, stone, paralysis, poison, darkness, sleep, silence, confusion, mind, death

2). Mummy: 80 HP, 300gil, 300 exp

Weakness: Fire, dia

Resistance: Ice, stone, paralysis, poison, darkness, sleep, silence, confusion, mind, death

Marsh Cave B3: Get the treasures you couldn’t before. Piscodemons and Anacondas guard them.

T: Antidote, 1020gil, Silver Armlet

M: 1). Piscodemon: 84 HP, 300gil, 276 exp

Resistance: Fire, stone, ice, paralysis, poison, darkness, sleep, silence, confusion, mind

2). Anaconda: 80 HP, 50gil, 165 exp

Over  world: Go to Mount Duergar it appears as a yellow  dot north of  the western keep. However, you can  only  get  there by sailing to  a   port  northwest of  Cornelia.

Mount Duergar: Go   through all of the chests  you  find.  There is  a huge  room to the south that   has  a whole  pile  of chests in  it (you couldn’t  get  those ones before). Then talk to Nerrick,    he’s hanging  out  just south of that room. He makes  a canal with the Nitro  Powder. It goes into this cool   cut scene.

T: 575gil, 450gil, tent, great helm, Wyrmkiller, ether, potion, mythril mail, 575gil, cottage

Over world: Sail west through the canal to Melmond. In Melmond buy the best weapons and armour you can afford and then if you want sail south from there to the “devil’s tail” and then west till you get to a dock on the other side of the world. Walk west from the dock and you’ll come to a town named “Crescent Lake”. Upgrade you armour and weapons here. After that sail back to Melmond and then walk to the Earth Cave, a cave that’s in “devil’s tail”.

NOTE: I believe in Melmond an old man talks about “devils tail”, it’s the arrowhead-like section of land that is south of Melmond.

Earth Cave B1: There is some treasure in a room in the north and two rooms in the south. Don’t go west…back in the NES version, by accident I found out that there is a hallway in this cave that is completely filled with monsters. Not generic monsters, but the ones you automatically encounter every time you enter a certain square. The stairway down to the next level is in the southeast corner.

T: 1975gil, 795gil, antidote, 880gil, and potion

M: 1). Earth Elemental: 288 HP, 768gil, 1536 exp

Treasure: remedy

Weakness: Fire

Resistance: Quake, Lightning, Ice, Stone, paralysis, poison, darkness, sleep, silence, confusion, mind, death

*Should you decide to enter the west hallway, here is the brief information on the monsters you’ll face there:

1). Hill Gigas: 240 HP, 879gil, 879 exp

Treasure: tent

2). Lizard: 90 HP, 50gil, 153exp

NOTE: You can avoid the Earth Elementals simply by avoiding the right of the chests in the north chamber and the southeast chamber. In the south most chamber don’t go in front of the right chest, instead go beside it.

Earth Cave B2: The stairwell to this stage is in the southeast corner. An Earth Elemental that cannot be avoided guards one of the rooms.

T: Coral Sword, Tent, 330gil, 575gil, Leather Shield, 5000gil

M: Earth Elemental: 288 HP, 768gil, 1536 exp

Treasure: remedy

Weakness: Fire

Resistance: Quake, Lightning, Ice, Stone, paralysis, poison, darkness, sleep, silence, confusion, mind, death

Earth Cave B3: Go in the room with the blue bat. Before you talk to the bat, make sure everyone in your party is at a decent HP and MP level (if you can help it). Talk to the bat, he turns into a vampire! After you defeat the Vampire leave the cave.

T: Gold Needle, Sleeping Bag, 3400gil, 1020gil, Star Ruby

M: 1). Earth Elemental: 288 HP, 768gil, 1536 exp

Treasure: remedy

Weakness: Fire

Resistance: Quake, Lightning, Ice, Stone, paralysis, poison, darkness, sleep, silence, confusion, mind, death

2). Vampire: 280 HP, 2000gil, 1200exp

Weakness: Fire, dia

Resistance: Quake, Ice, stone, paralysis, poison, darkness, sleep, silence, confusion, mind, death

NOTE: Don’t go in the room with 3 bats. It’s filled with Earth Elementals.

Over World: Go west from Melmond to the Giant’s Cave.

Giant’s Cave: Talk to the giant, he’ll take your Star Ruby and then take off. There is a room with treasures in the south, go there before you leave for the Sage’s Cave.

T: Great Axe, 620gil, 450gil, Mythril Helmet

NOTE: The giant was called the “golem” in the NES version.

Sages Cave: Talk to the sage, who is named “Sadda”. He’ll give you the Earth Rod; yep we have to go back to the Earth Cave!

T: Earth Rod (AKA “rod”)

Over world: Return to the Earth Cave.

Earth Cave B3: Go back to where you fought the vampire. Go out the other door in the room. Go to what looks like sort of a gravestone and talk to it. You’ll use the rod on it and it will open. Go down the stairs.

Earth Cave B4: Go down the northwest set of stairs.

Earth Cave B5: When you find the chamber of the Lich, recover your HP and MP if possible then enter the room and talk to him. I found the Vampire to be more of a nuisance than Lich. So don’t worry about him. Anyways, defeat him and you get one of the orbs!!! Go to the yellow spot behind the orb, it’ll transport you out of the cave.

M: Lich: 1200 HP, 3000gil, 2200exp

Treasure: Dry Ether

Weakness: Fire, Dia

Resistance: Ice, stone, paralysis, poison, darkness, sleep, silence, confusion, mind, death

T: Orb

NOTE: During the cut scene after you defeated Lich, you might have noticed a strange cave with a statue that was getting removed? Well if you did, that’s the Earthgift shrine. It’s just north of Cornelia. You’re welcome to go there if you want, but there is some nasty creatures lurking in there and there really isn’t a whole pile of treasure to be found. I can almost bet my pants that you won’t be able to beat the masters of that cave, which have I think 5000 HP+.

Over world: Go to crescent lake. Sail south from Melmond to devil’s tail and then west until you reach the dock. Walk west from there and you’ll make it to Crescent Lake.

Crescent Lake: If you didn’t come here before, upgrade your weapons and armours. Get whatever spells you can for your magic users. The red mage can use none of the magic in this town. To the right of the magic shops there is a bridge, cross it and follow the path until you come to a group of 12 sages. The sage to the left of the purple sage will give you a canoe for defeating the Earth Fiend!!!

T: Canoe

Over world: Next stop: Ice Cave. Before you go to the ice cave you better stock up on Phoenix Downs and potions. Go back in your ship and sail north to another dock (you may have accidentally docked here once before). Don’t dock at the dock, instead dock at the river. Yes, isn’t that crazy, this trick comes into play later on in the game. Jump in the river and paddle in these directions: West, north, east, north, west, south, west and then after that point just follow the river until you reach the ground. Once you reach the ground, walk to the mouth of the cave.

Cavern of Ice (AKA “ice cave”) B1: Go down the first set of stairs you come across.

Ice Cave B2: Go down the stairs.

NOTE: Watch out for mindflayer’s they can hit you and it’ll show up, as “2dmg” or whatever and you’ll be dead!!! They got both my warrior and my monk.

Ice Cave B3: Go up the stairs.

Ice Cave B2: In the room, you’ll see cracks on the floor; these will send you to the basement. What did your mom always tell you: if you step on the cracks your break your back! Get the treasure boxes that you can reach. The clothes or right chest is guarded by Dark Wizards, a very nasty bunch of wizards! Once you get the only treasures you can, step on one of the cracks.

M: Dark Wizard: 105 HP, 1095gil, 1095exp

Treasure: Red Curtain

T:  Clothes, Flame Sword

Ice Cave B3: As soon as you’re down stairs a group of typical monsters guards the door. Go up the stairs.

M: 1). White dragon: 200 HP, 2000gil, 1701exp

Weakness: fire, lightning

Resistance: quake, ice, stone, poison

2). Winter Wolves: 92 HP, 200gil, 402exp

Treasure: Ice shield

Weakness: fire

Resistance: ice

T: Ice armour, mythril gloves, 9900gil, 5000gil, 12350gil, 5454gil, 7900gil

*There was another treasure too in the same room as all of the other treasures; I don’t remember what it is. E-mail me and tell me if you would.

NOTE: Some of the ground in this part of the cave will hurt you if you walk on it. Also watch out for dark wizards, a group of four of them killed 3 of my guys. They use high-level magic like firaga and scourge.

Ice Cave B1: In one of the rooms there is a crack in the floor, fall down it. If you happen to be weak you can always climb the stairs on this level and it will take you out of the cave.

T: Ether, 10000gil, 9500gil, Sleeping Bag, Ice Shield

Ice Cave B3: Get the floater, but watch out for the evil eye that guards it. The evil eye can use high-level spells like thundara. At that point you have no choice but to fall through the cracks one more time. This time when you reach the upper level go up the stairs.

M: Evil Eye: 162 HP, 3225gil, 3225exp

Resistance: Quake

T: Levistone (AKA “Floater” in the NES version)

Over World: Go back to your ship. Sail south along the shoreline until you come to a river. Follow the river south. Go west once you reach grasslands. Enter the desert. You’ll witness a cut scene. OMFG…what’s that??? Yep, it’s the airship. Once you have the airship visit one of the northern towns, Gaia. You can go to Leifin…but you won’t be able to talk to any of the people or buy anything but extremely high-level magic, which you can’t use now anyways. You can go to Onrac as well, but there are no weapon shops there and you’re stuck with the same problem, high magic spells only. So after you go to Gaia, go to see the dragons. They live on islands in between the two northern continents.

T: Airship

NOTE: To use the airship press “a”. To land it press “a”, if you can’t land it won’t land. You can’t land on desert, water, mountains, forest, stone (like in towns), towns or castles and marshland.

Dragon Cave B1: Talk to the dragons. Treasures are in order from caves from left to right. Ignore the hellfire chasm. You can talk to the king if you want to.

T: 1). 2750gil, 2000gil, 1455gil, x-potion, 9500gil, 2750gil, 1520gil

4). Cottage, 500gil, elixir

7). Tent, dry ether, gold needle

Over World: You have a choice, you can go and grab your ship or you can fly to this place. The pro with grabbing your ship (an old trick of mine) is that you don’t have to fight the nasty monsters hanging out around the forest that’s beside the castle. Because the only suitable landing spot for this castle is across the bay or south of the small patch of desert, whereas you can take the ship to the river beside the castle and simply walk there no problem avoiding nasty monsters. Well whatever you choose to do you have to go to the Citadel of Trials, which on the map is directly north from the Chaos shrine.

Citadel of Trials: Talk to the man. Go in the northwest room and sit on the chair.

Citadel of Trials 2F: Follow these directions to get through the teleportation maze: go in the only portal, go in the only portal, go in the bottom portal, go in the only portal, go in the bottom portal, go in the only portal, go in the closest portal, go in the 3rd closest portal and then go up the stairs.

T: Gauntlet

M: Clay Golem: 176 HP, 800gil, 1257exp

Treasure: Potion

Resistance: Fire, Lightning, Ice, Stone, Paralysis, Poison, Darkness, Sleep, Silence, Confusion, Mind, and Death

Citadel of Trials 3F: Get all the treasures and exit through the chair, but beware a zombie dragon guards it. Make sure you get the rat’s tail that’s the most important item.

T: Healing staff, steel gloves, ice brand, ruby armlet, cottage, 1455gil, 7340gil, rat’s tail

M: 1). Nightmare: 200HP, 700gil, 1272exp

Weakness: Ice

Resistance: Quake, fire, stone, paralysis, poison, darkness, sleep, silence, confusion, mind, death

2). Dragon Zombie: 268 HP, 999gil, 2331exp

Treasure: megalixir

Weakness: fire, dia

Resistance: quake, ice, stone, paralysis, poison, darkness, sleep, silence, confusion, mind, death

Over World: Go back to your airship (whether or not you have to first go back to your ship and sail to your airship). Fly to the Dragon Caves, the one with Bahamut.

Dragon Caves B2: Talk to Bahamut, he’ll give your party new titles. Warrior=Knight, Monk=Master, Thief=Ninja, Mage=Wizard.

Over world: Get spells for your magic users, knights and ninjas. Once you have done this fly to the closest possible landing position to Onrac (which is south of the river that runs through the continent). Follow the river straight into the waterfalls.

Waterfall Cavern: Enter the chamber; typical stage monsters guard it. Talk to the robot to get the cube and get the treasures. The robot malfunctions shortly after. Leave the cave.

T: Cube, wizard’s staff, ribbon, 6400gil, 13450gil, 6400gil, 5000gil, defender

Over world: Fly to the volcano. If you don’t know where this is, it’s the yellow dot west of crescent lake.

Mount Gulg B1: The lava does hurt you so don’t walk around too much on it if you can help it at all. Anyways go down the stairs in the northwest corner.

Mount Gulg B2: Get the treasures and then exit down the stairs.

T: Mythril Helm, 1520gil, 4150gil, great sword, 750gil, 795gil, mythril gloves, hi-potion, tent, 1975gil, 1520gil, 1455gil, antidote, 1760gil, mythril shield, mythril axe, phoenix down

M: 1). Fire Elemental: 276 HP, 800gil, 1620exp

Weakness: Ice

Resistance: Quake, Fire, Stone, Paralysis, Sleep, Poison, Darkness, Silence, Confusion, mind, death

2). Lava Worm: 280 HP, 400gil, 1671exp

Weakness: Ice

Resistance: quake and fire

Mount Gulg B3: Go down the stairs.

Mount Gulg B4: Go upstairs.

Mount Gulg B3: Go down the stairs.

Mount Gulg B4: Go down the stairs.

T: Gold Needle, 2750gil, 1760gil, antidote, 7340gil, flame shield, ice brand, 880gil, 10gil, 155gil, 2000gil, cottage, staff, 1250gil

M: 1). Lava Worm: 280 HP, 400gil, 1671exp

Weakness: Ice

Resistance: quake and fire

2). Fire Lizard: 296 HP, 1200gil, 2472exp

Weakness: Ice

Resistance: Fire

Mount Gulg B5: This floor is like the union jack flag. At each end of a path is a room. N=nothing, NE=nothing, E=nothing, SE=nothing, S=nothing, SW=Kary’s Chamber, W=Treasure chest that’s guarded by both a fire lizard and a red dragon, NW=nothing. Talk to the red orb, which transforms into Marilith (AKA “Kary” in the NES version). Spells I recommend you cast: Haste, temper (on your fighters), nulblaze, protera, and any ice magic. Afterwards step into the portal (the red circle) and leave.

T: Flame Mail, orb

M: 1). Fire Lizard: 296 HP, 1200gil, 2472exp

Weakness: Ice

Resistance: Fire

2). Red Dragon: 248 HP, 4000gil, 2904exp

Weakness: Ice, poison, stone

Resistance: Quake and fire

3). Marilith: 1440 HP, 3000gil, 2475exp

Weakness: Paralyses, darkness, sleep, silence, confusion, mind

Resistance: stone, poison, fire, lightning

NOTE: You’ll witness the Marilith statue disappear in the hellfire chasm again ignore that, it’s not part of your quest and you probably won’t succeed in making through it.

Over world: Fly to the only desert on the Onrac continent. There’s a forested area in the north end of the desert, walk there. The caravan isn’t actually in the forested area; it’s in the little patch of desert just beside it.

Caravan: Talk to the shopkeeper. He has a faerie to sell you, a 40,000gil faerie!!! Actually, I think if I remember right it was 75,000gil in the NES version. Buy the faerie. And just as I was writing this I unveiled an amazing secret. Once you bought the faerie talk to the shopkeeper once more, he has some amazing products to sell you now.  BTW…I don’t think this was in the NES version. Another thing that’s cool is that you can sell stuff to this dude if you wanted to (except you can’t sell the faerie!). Leave the caravan.

Over world: Travel to Gaia.

Gaia: As soon as you walk into town, the faerie gets released into the air. Go to the pond in town and talk to the faerie. She goes down to the bottom of the spring and gets you Oxyale!!!

T: Oxyale

Over world: go to Onrac.

Onrac: Talk to the girl in front of the submarine. She’ll let you on the sub now…and she randomly disappears??? Anyways go on the sub by talking to it and selecting “yes”. You get to watch a cool scene.

Sunken Shrine 3F: Go upstairs.

T: 2000gil, 9900gil

Sunken Shrine 4F: Go up the stairs.

T: 20gil, Diamond Armour, Light Axe, Mage’s Staff, 12350gil

Sunken Shrine 5F: There aren’t any monsters on this floor, yay! Go around collecting treasure.  Talk to the mermaids.  Make sure you collect the Rosetta stone (AKA “slab” in the NES version). After that use the spell exit or teleport and leave the shrine.

T: 9000gil, 1760gil, Diamond Armlet, 2750gil, 4150gil, 5000gil, antidote, Diamond Shield, Diamond Helmet, Rosetta Stone (AKA “slab” in the NES version), Diamond Gloves

Over world: Go to Melmond.

Melmond: Talk to Dr.Unne, he’s in the graveyard. You can speak Lufenian…wow that was quick; imagine it was that easy to learn French.

Over world: Fly to Lufenia. The only landing space is south of Gaia by the mountains. Walk south through the forest and marshland to Lufenia.

Lufenia:  Hey Cid, isn’t that the guy from FF2 who flies you places? Talk to all the people, one guy gives you the chime. I’ll let you in on a secret: there’s a part of the town’s wall that is damaged, it’s in the northeast corner. Walk through there and head east to a black and white magic shop. This shop is only for LV8 spell users, so the Red Wizard can’t shop here.

T: Chime

Over world: Head back to the Sunken Shrine.

NOTE: That whole section was pretty useless for your current mission: defeat Kraken and get the orb, but I figured you might benefit from the high level magic spells. Anyways, you’d have to do this right after your beat Kraken, so you might as well do what you can when you can.

Sunken Shrine 3F: Go down the other staircase.

Sunken Shrine 2F: Go upstairs.
