Game: The Pirates of Dark Waters

This game is very under-rated in my opinion. I know it's your basic $0.25 arcade game, but it's alot of fun and it is possible to beat. Let's get started with what we know. The basic idea of this game is to get the treasures of Rule before the Pirate-Lord; Bloth, does. These treasures control what is known as the dark water. This game is based on a kick-ass TV show (cartoon) that existed in the early 90's.

***PRESS START***

You have the choice to be one of three characters; Tula, Ren or Ioz (left to right) in the game. These are the members of the "Ragtag" group. Let's begin with the first thing in the game: who should I be? 

NOTE: "Knock-Down" moves as I have doubbed them are moves that will knock an opponent on the ground.

NOTE: Buttons are based on the DEFAULT options.

NOTE: When you go near a character you can get them in a "hold" so that they can not move.  

***TULA***

DESCRIPTION/INFORMATION: Joined the Ragtag group in hopes that she will rebuild Andorus her lost homeland. She fights with her knife.
STRENGTH: Low

***REN***
DESCRIPTION/INFORMATION: He is the leader of the ragtag group. His destiny is to save Mer; their planet, by  collecting all the treasures of Rule and using them to controll the Dark Waters.
STRENGTH: Medium

***IOZ***
DESCRIPTION/INFORMATION: He is an ex-pirate in search of treasures. Ren talked him into joining the Ragtag team.
STRENGTH: High
AGILITY: Low
WEAPON: Sword

***Ioz can deflect Konks boomerang usin any of his moves.

***Universal Moves***
Pick Up Object: Y (above the object)

Counter: B then Y
Hold: Move close to a character. Ioz can move people once they are in a hold.

I pick Ioz most of the time, but it is good to try and get a good feel with all the characters. If you become very good with Ioz you can kick some serious ass, since Ioz inflicts much more damage than Ren or Tula. The problem with Ioz is that he is too slow and can't jump very well. Have fun getting across some holes with Ioz! Ren is probably the most reasonable character to be, since he is sorta tough and can jump over holes and dodge attacks with ease. Tula is weak as heck and takes a lot of damage from blows. She is not a good choice in my opinion, BUT don't let that get in your way if you want to be her.

***TRAPS***
Rock:
Can appear from either side of the screen and from the roof. These traps can also appear suspended by a chain. These traps are very painful and can inflict much damage. Use Ioz to destroy rock traps that are suspended by chains.

Fire: These traps are located only on the ground. These traps occur at a continuos rate and can be avoided. Watch out for these.

Fire Balls: These traps appear as tiny fire balls that appear on a few boards from the left or right and cannot be easily avoided.

Spikes: These are spikes that erect from the ground when someone gets near.

Cage: This trap is a bird cage that can cause damage if you are near.

Barrels: Can be avoided by moving up or down.

Constrictus: These are indestructable snake-like creatures that cannot be destroyed. They can be avoided easily, since they don't move.

Dark Water: These traps are puddles that are visible and can be easily avoided.

***GENERAL OPPONENTS**

The game has a variety of opponents to fight. Here is a few things to note: 
1. The darker the skin color in opponents, the harder it is to defeat them and the more advanced fighters they become. 
2. Some opponents block your general punch attacks (Tattoo Man). Use Counter attacks (B then Y) or you can use run attacks.
3. Some opponents can attack you from long range. Avoid character attacks like Konk's boomerang crap by moving up and down on the screen (It's 3D sort of...use that to your advantage when you are fighting).
4. Some characters may Jump Kick you (Tattoo Man). Watch out for this! As you may become a victim of stage holes. Scroll up and down to avoid these jumps.
5. Some characters may Ram you (Big Pirate). This can be annoying and dangerous if your near any holes.
6. You might wonder about the FISHERMAN. How do I kill them? Well simply Jump Punch/Kick them and they'll soon come off their ropes.

***Fighting Stage Bosses**

Treat these guys the same as other opponents (unleash combinations...blah, blah, blah). Except! Watch out for their counter attacks! That's right if you knock them down and are near by when they get back up they will attack you with great damage.


***TIPS**
*
1. Pick up all items even if you don't need them, since you get a free life every everytime you reach 100,000 points.

2. Use many different combinations of "Knock-Down" moves to increase the amount of damage your opponent recieves. For Example: A popular combination I use is YYX (Ioz) YYYX (Ren) YYYYX (Tula) . Get more complicated and do this: YY Hold YYX.

3. Throw your opponent into other opponents.

4. Throw your opponents into traps (they take damage from them). 

5. Press "Y" behind suspicious trees and pillars to recieve secret items.

6. Throw your opponents down holes (opponents can die if they are hit into holes).

7. Destroy rock traps to reveal items.

8. Attack many opponents at once as this will increase the speed of your victory. You get extra points for unused time (100,000 for a life, right?). Also, defeating more opponents at once will increase the chance that you won't die.

9. Share items with your partner. Remember, after beating a stage your energy will renew itself. Let items go to the weakest of characters to help preserve credit supplies.

10. Help your buddy out. You can attack an opponent while they are attacking your friend.

11. Be hastely, as time counts for points. (100,000 for a life)

12. Konk and Urie have projectile moves along soem other unmentioned (i just don't know) characters too. Anyhow, these projectiles can inflict damage on other opponents too.


***Antani Palace: Secrets***
1.
There is a pillar with FIRE and SPIKE traps to the immediate left of it. This is a palace pillar not a cave pillar. Behind this pillar is a steak.

2. Just past the beginning of the stage there is a cave pillar. Behind this pillar is a 1up.

3. Certain stalactmites have water dropping from them. Stand under these drops to have your health restored.
